nagios and monit are 2 tools that come to mind for me when monitoring multiple systems.
amanda for backups.
I also use cron to do some checks (but never updates in case of an unfortunate shutdown or other accident)
250 and bash scripts for VPS. Half a dozen dedis. Tracked with a database of details. I build with scale in mind. The biggest inconvenience is non-WHMCS based providers (I have a script to login and grab invoices), otherwise for simple requirements like mine (apt-get, install some programs of my own, set up unbound and apache), the only concern is uptime and paying invoices.
I think after a certain point, say 10 containers, it doesn't really matter how many you have and it's more about the processes you do to keep on top.
Custom SSH generator essentially; adds aliases to bash on my Mac:
Asyd for deploy, Graphite/Librenms/Munin for system monitoring, Nodeping for external, Smokeping for network, Backup custom.
Mass SSH (connects on server groups or location groups) for multi exec, SOCKS5/HTTP/VPN configured from a central server with sync.
2 Colo Machines (Zurich / Frankfurt am Main)
Zurich:
Frankfurt:
At each location there is one MikroTik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+ taking care of BGP, Firewall and VPN
VMs are observed by Icinga2, Smokeping and LibreNMS. More VMs are coming :-)
Let's leave it like this: enough.
Maybe even more than enough, but somehow doesn't stop me from lurking around...
FirstByte.RU (Moscow, Russia)
3 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 100 GB SAS + SSD, unlimited traffic with 200Mbit/s, KVM virtualization, $16 per month

I've got 1 server of my own colo'd at work.
3 VPS at work, 1 VPS that I actually pay for.

I like the look of Asyd, do you have to write all of the deploy scripts or are there premade ones available?
Woah, what do you use them all for?
teh internets
8 including 2 AWS EC2, 4 Digital Ocean, 1 Jump Networks, and 1 OVH
Too many
About 100.
I use one vps with bash scripts to control others.
It could do a lot of things, such as monitoring, auto tasks and so on.
I pay the owner to write them for me (most will be opensourced though), though it is more simple than Ansible/Jenkins once you understand the usage.
Have more than 10 but many of them are left unused (idle).
I have only one.
Two. One OpenVZ and the other KVM. I dropped a third OpenVZ VPS recently.
wanna share bash script?
3 VPS's
1) main server with fiberoute
2) ovh jump box
3) time4vps backup box
1 OVH fucking mental special (the Plex server)
1 KS-3 (the backup Plex server)
1 Fiberoute dedi (the desktop)
1 Kidichere (the anime seedbox)
1 HostSolutions custom plan (the Linux ISO seedbox)
1 LoveServers custom plan (the 'I don't know what to do with yet' server)
1 ZXHost custom plan (the backup for everything else server)
1 InceptionHosting (the monitoring server)
6 geographically distributed small VPS (the VPN farm)
I'm at about 13
1 vmbox (cpanel server)
5 Small vps's (cpanel dns cluster, Time4vps, northhost, alpharacks, Dedistation, Virmach)
2 VoIP Servers (Rentpbx & Testing a new one at Wishosting)
4 Storage Servers (about 6TB Time4vps)
1 Windows VM (makes life easier for various tasks, Wishosting)
Whats this? I need to look out for something a little faster for plex, currently got a storage vps but its not powerful enough for some stuff
Anyway you might wanna share that ?
Self-written deployment tool (
deplmd
) that puts my servers into my infrastructure and automatically deploys configurations for software like tinc, graphite, ssh-groups, dns, nodeping, bgp, consul, docker, mj12bot, ceph cluster (yay 300TB storage), and - last but not least - deplsd (deployment-tool slave daemon, does full-automatic distribution of configuration files over a mesh network ).I'm not sure what you're after? The anime I'm seeding or access to the tracker I'm seeding on?
