How many VPS do you have?

How many VPS do you have? (Dedi's are fine to mention)

For those who have large amounts, how do you keep track of them all?

  • nagios and monit are 2 tools that come to mind for me when monitoring multiple systems.

    amanda for backups.

    I also use cron to do some checks (but never updates in case of an unfortunate shutdown or other accident)

    250 and bash scripts for VPS. Half a dozen dedis. Tracked with a database of details. I build with scale in mind. The biggest inconvenience is non-WHMCS based providers (I have a script to login and grab invoices), otherwise for simple requirements like mine (apt-get, install some programs of my own, set up unbound and apache), the only concern is uptime and paying invoices.

    I think after a certain point, say 10 containers, it doesn't really matter how many you have and it's more about the processes you do to keep on top.

    william@mba :: ~/Google Drive/Code/Bash-SSH-gen# cat serverlist|wc -l
          85

    Custom SSH generator essentially; adds aliases to bash on my Mac:

    william@mba :: ~# ssh_backup01-dedi-DE-Hetzner hostname -s && w
    zion
    18:01  up 9 days, 20:57, 2 users, load averages: 1.83 2.08 1.98

    Asyd for deploy, Graphite/Librenms/Munin for system monitoring, Nodeping for external, Smokeping for network, Backup custom.

    Mass SSH (connects on server groups or location groups) for multi exec, SOCKS5/HTTP/VPN configured from a central server with sync.

    I like the look of Asyd, do you have to write all of the deploy scripts or are there premade ones available?

    About 100.

    I use one vps with bash scripts to control others.

    It could do a lot of things, such as monitoring, auto tasks and so on.

    I pay the owner to write them for me (most will be opensourced though), though it is more simple than Ansible/Jenkins once you understand the usage.

  • Have more than 10 but many of them are left unused (idle).

  • I have only one.

    Self-written deployment tool (deplmd) that puts my servers into my infrastructure and automatically deploys configurations for software like tinc, graphite, ssh-groups, dns, nodeping, bgp, consul, docker, mj12bot, ceph cluster (yay 300TB storage), and - last but not least - deplsd (deployment-tool slave daemon, does full-automatic distribution of configuration files over a mesh network :3).

    I'm not sure what you're after? The anime I'm seeding or access to the tracker I'm seeding on?
