Looking for a cheap yearly vps for teamspeak!
Hey there,
I am looking for a cheap yearly VPS to host my TeamSpeak 3 server on. I only use the 32 slot license and usually average users online at evening are 5-15, peak was ~23.
I am looking for about 512MB-1024MB of DDR3 ram, 1vCore and if possible UNMETERED. Now that doesnt mean I plan to drain your traffic. I just dont know how much traffic my TS3 uses so I dont want it to go down in the middle of a session. If you have worked with TS3 before and can give me an offer with limited bw based on my user activity described above I am totally fine with it aswell

I'll give my actual advice first then my copout.
Honestly you could go for way less when it comes to TeamSpeak. I have no doubts you could run it on 512 more than fine though, and you could easily run a music bot off the same server. As far as bandwidth goes, you won't use more than allotted, unless you guys are talkers haha. (assuming you get at least 100GB of bandwidth a month.)
My advice you won't want to hear:
Use Mumble. You'll end up using less bandwidth that way if that's what you're worried about. I've personally ran a Mumble server (at more than default bitrate) with ~10 people in it consistently, and a OpenVPN Access Server on 512MB just fine. Sorry I can't give you actual numbers.
Thanks for the feedback mate However I cant get all my mates to switch to mumble and the ts is alrdy established since a year with ovh 2014 vps 2,40/month :P
Get a ddod protected vps for a teamspeak. They are ddos magnete.
why not stay at OVH?
I'm personally running a private but unliscensed TS server off of a LES plan at the moment (128 mb ram / 50gb bw and 2gb disk in case you're not acquainted) and it works fine, its a non standard port obviously but works perfectly for the half dozen or so that are usually on it.
NINJA EDIT: I'm not really recommending LES to run you server, merely giving my use case so you can know it runs on far less resources.
If you want to know how much bandwidth your TS server has used, right click the master channel, the one right at the top and you should have an option for "server information" your bandwidth usage is in there.
Go with ramnodes 15$ plan, great uptime
Awesome! Thanks will check it out!
@sercio well i havent had any ddos troubles with my ts at ovh but then again i only use it for my friends and clan members so there is rly no one who would ddos it really. I know for a fact that a huge gaming community im in gets constantly ddos attacks to their ts. But thats because its public visible and well some ppl hold a grudge against them.
OVH VPS would be fine, if you just don't want a "big name" you should look at RamNode. All of their clients have said good things and their prices are cheap for what you get.
My personal TS3 server is hosted with ramnode, so far zero issues. I am using the 128MB SSD plan, never ran into OOM issues, and my server has about 20+ users every night.
Awesome! Thanks will either use ramnode or stick with ovh then xD
I would say ramnode honestly, their uptime is awesome, and it's only $15 a year, half the price of your OVH, but there's no ddos protection. I've been fine without it this whole time, but my server is a private server and I only allow my friends in.
TS3 does not use a lot of resources. You can get a NAT vps on http://lowendspirit.com/ 64MB ram for about $2 a year, It will work for about 10-15 users, it may even hold more users but I've never tested it If you want to be safe get a 128MB ram VPS for $3.5 a year.
NAT VPS are only hard to configure at first as you get the port range and a shared IPv4, so the TS3 server can't run on 9987 port, you need to change it. It's not that simple but it's worth it if you don't want to spend much. If the port is not a problem then I recommend you that option. If you need some help with the setup PM me.
Although, if you need a dedicated IP you can find some good plans all around let, you just don't need more than 256MB of ram and 1 core for such a small TS3 server.
If you get DDoS attacks then don't go with lowendspirit.com go with some provider like hosteam.pl they got some serious filtering for TS3 servers.
@Vita
Thanks guess u will look for a 256 MB RAM offer then :P maybe even go for the NAT^^ How much BW would you presume?
My monthly bandwidth has been below 200GB. And if you do go with LES nat VPS, I have a script that can get you setup real fast (with the ability to choose your own ports).
That sounds pretty cool Can you pm me regarding this?
It's a private server...
Never had a ddos issue with my vps within 2 years. Im not having a gaming community ts or anything so unlikely to become a target out of the blue^^
Exactly. Why would a private server get DDoSed specifically, @WHT? It's not like some idiot would randomly DDoS IP ranges...
My VPS with the TS3 uses about 60GB/month. It's not full always but every evening we have about 10-15 people on the server. So I guess in your case not more than 120GB/month. Most LES locations would work for you.
Since it seems you don't need so much traffic, maybe one of these suits you?
