Reliable DNS suggestion?
I was using geoscaling.com (closed now), after it was hit by DDOS, I moved to he.net but I see it's got an outage now.
Which DNS service do you recommend? I don't mind paying a few $. I want to avoid using a secondary dns server (to avoid manual synchronization of settings, which is rather not my idea of fun).
Or perhaps you know of a solution that does the syncing automatically (holy sh*it!)

I use Cloudflare
Can you use Cloudflare DNS without its reverse proxy? I don't want my traffic routed on yet another hop.
I use Cloudflare, but I've heard good things about Rage4 DNS (https://rage4.com). You can get an unlimited (I believe) account from Prometeus at €12/year ( https://www.prometeus.net/billing/cart.php?a=add&pid=96 )
Yup, you can have it just route the dns, no cloudflare reverse proxy, just make sure the cloud for the dns entry it gray not orange
i have yet to encounter any issues with http://zonomi.com - im using it for 1.5+ years now.
if you wanna have a list of other dns providers then take a look at http://www.dnsperf.com (created by @jimaek.)
Thanks! I've seen it mentioned here from time to time, interested to hear about people's experience regarding reliability.
Yes, you can. In the panel, there's a little orange Cloud symbol next to your entry, if you click it, it turns grey and routes directly to your IP rather than through the reverse proxy. I've put an image below, because that probably explains it better than I can.
Fantastic, thanks again!
Run your own.
The idea is to reduce friction and increase reliability, not the other way round
This is an awesome resource! Thanks
Dunno where further to reduce friction from this:

No single-entity DNS provider will be more reliable than a distributed set (3 should be enough) of NSes spread by you over different and diverse (in locations/upstreams/ownership/jurisdiction) providers.
Won't I have to manually sync the settings on every one each time I need to make a change?
Edit: NVM, I just read your link! Thanks
https://entrydns.net/ comes to mind, I haven't used it personally but have a few friends who do and haven't had any issues.
NSD is easy to setup/config and reliably does syncing the secondaries. No geoDNS though.
Nsone might be attractive as they have a reasonably sized free service supporting GeoDNS.
For bigger things you might want to try rage4.
I run own MaraDNS cluster on those cheap yearly deals with dedicated IPv4. Costs me around 12euro per year for all 4 servers. So far so good.
I have used Rage4 for 9+ months on a few domains and I haven't noticed any downtime or issues, you can also set vanity NS server names. I've just been using their free level account, paid accounts add several more features.
+1 for Rage4
cloudflare have anycast DNS. Very solid. Also in case your own server goes down you still have control over DNS for a switch and you can lower TTL too.
And you have extra FREE CDN and free SSL support... Hard to beat.

CloudFlare's DNS is very reliable and extremely fast.
Rackspace is another really good and underrated (or under-known?) option -- you get free DNS if you just create a cloud account. You do need to put billing info on file in case you use other services but there's no charge for DNS and it's even more reliable (though a bit slower) than CloudFlare.

I started with CloudFlare but have moved to Rage4. Anycast and I don't mind paying and supporting a great product!
CloudFlare is my go to DNS solution.
I like ClouDNS. Using them for some time now and were reliable so far and I like the fast record updates. Also got my own bind dns servers (for my CDN), if you got some with different providers in different countries, it should be pretty stable as well.
I personally mistrust Claudflare. Experience: When a company invents lots of trade-marked buzzwords their focus probably is on marketing/sales more than on tech.
As for HE having a problem every 3 or so years ... Oh well, it's free and virtually all VPSs have problems more frequently than that. Plus: Not HE's fault if anyone bets all his DNS on 1 (free at that) service.
I have used DnsMadeEasy.com since 2008 and have never had any issue at all with my DNS. They cost little more then others, but still, if you don't have allot of domains, it's not so expensive.
