VirtKick package for CentOS 7, openSUSE and one-click install on DigitalOcean
Just run yum install https://www.virtkick.io/download/latest.rpm
on a clean CentOS or openSUSE and VirtKick is ready to play on http://yourserver:3000/. No need to deal with any config files. :-) Things can be that easy, can't they?
If you don't have CentOS by hand, you can install VirtKick on DigitalOcean. They offer nested virtualization, so all will work good.
As always, I'm open for your feedback. If you encounter any problems, please report an issue on GitHub.
By the way: it's the last 30 hours of our crowdfunding. We already raised ~22k from multiple sources, and we're only ~$5k away from reaching the third goal: support for OpenVZ.
In case someone doesn't yet know VirtKick, it's an open source VPS panel, similar to DigitalOcean. More at https://www.virtkick.io/.

I truly wish you had a WHMCS Module for VirtKick :-)
We will have at some point.
Then I'd switch from SolusVM in a heartbeat
@DalekOfSkaro - if there is an API then its simple to make a WHMCS module
I got in the mail today as well,
Going to give it a ride on my kidechire
@Sady Good, let me know how it went.
Not sure but it got stuck on this page
Going to give it a run on a new server
I need you to run this
sudo journalctl -u virtkick-webapp > output
and then gist the content ofoutput
file. Then we can see what went wrong. Here we go : https://gist.githubusercontent.com/anonymous/1e45b379f1f682fc1176/raw/d25fd91c1acfba7802bda9d1ecee10681c5881cb/virtkick
@Sady Deadly!
How about
sudo journalctl -u virtkick-work@1 > output
? (Orvirtkick-work@
without the1
if the former is empty/errors) I'll see whether it's all Ruby binaries segfaulting, or just the webapp.@Sady Also, CentOS version and architecture, and output of
uname -a
andcat /proc/cpuinfo
will come in handy. Here we go : https://gist.githubusercontent.com/anonymous/c22620aed1e6b5646e48/raw/d84c5454a4bf4b51b024897df86c032ccd733f00/virtkick-work@1

Hey mate, I forgot to contribute to your indiegogo campaign. Could I still get in on it?
Thanks!
@nowaker looks awesome, works quite well already! Good job!
Early January I will have to have a play with this I cant wait to get rid of this pain in the neck called SolusVM!
Got a lot of dependency issues on CentOS 6.5.
Got it working after 1-3 hours installing dependencies
Yes, I just deployed a post-crowdfunding website where you can still claim some of the previous perks. Here it is: https://www.virtkick.io/fund/ Thanks!
We're aware of the problems on CentOS 6.5. For now the package is only usable on 7.0. We'll be back on it next week.
Why is the $25 perk now $35?
damn... virtkick is quite awesome
Does it support 3D acceleration?
The $25 perk was a bit underpriced, so it's $35 now.
While there are some ways of 3D acceleration with Qemu/KVM (e.g. GPU passthrough), VirtKick doesn't address VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) so we won't be implementing any features for that.
Happy to hear that, but expect even more awesomeness!
Port 3000 is blocked , So in which config file should I edit.?
Edit your firewall/IPTables?
RPM post-install script automatically performs:
If RPM post-install script failed at some point, then it might have not been executed. We need your install output (the output of
yum install ...
mentioned earlier). Please post it to gist.github.com. Thanks. Can't install it.
[root@server ~]# yum install https://www.virtkick.io/download/latest.rpm

Error: Nothing to do
I had same problem. Meant to do a post. Its something to do with the SSL certificate. I downloaded the file using a browser then installed it using a local URL.
Was disappointed after faffing around for a while to get it installed that it only installs the Alpha version same as at https://alpha.virtkick.io/
@efegue @ittiger We're using Cloudflare for SSL, so I believe they're causing a problem. Can you guys post output of this command?
Problem seems to be further compounded by the server with virtkick causing network problems when I try to connect to it and connection being reset.
If I try directly on server (ie not over ssh) message much the same down to CApath: none but afterwards (copied and typed from screen by hand so may contain typos):
Then it tries again repeating same message before closing
