GreenValueHost, Time in OpenVZ container![resolved]

Hello,

I bought two VPS in GreenValueHost. (the Netherlands).

When I type the command "date"

I have this result:

Sat May 10 00:51:39 BST 2014

**
Normally I must have:**

Fri May 9 16:51:39 BST 2014

BST= British Summer Time (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Summer_Time

The problem is that I can not change the time on the VPS, as it is defined by the server.

I opened a ticket, but I still do not have an answer.

Do you have another solution?

    Change your timezone

You can't do anything about it, except wait for them to fix the time on the node.

You can't change the time but you can change your timezone.

Offsetting the time this way, if the minute is correct, may allow you an easy workaround.

@comeback Mid if I edit the title to something less GVH-related?

    I did not understand.

Can you give me an example of a title?

As far as we can tell, the OP hasn't raised a ticket, so I'd rather not give them the publicity unless it gets to the point they can't fix the issue.

Of course I opened a ticket for several hours!

I just received the response GreenValueHost

    Hi,

    I don't see any issue.

  • Do I smell a new GVH drama thread?

The problem is that time of VPS, is defined by the server.

    For example the command

    date -s 17:50

    I have this error message

date: cannot set date: Operation not permitted

With WHM / Cpanel I can synchronize the time in WHM.

When I do, the time is right when I click.

When I look after it is false.

This is the server time which defines all.

    We can not do anything

Well then in that case just ask them to grant you the ability to control the node's time. If they don't see a problem with wrong time, you can just fix it for everyone ;)

Right. They need to use NTP on their server.

They probably don't know what NTP is.

GVH Tech #1: "Guess so. Says it isn't right."
GVH Tech #2: "Uh, well let me check on it after recess. Did you search LET?"
GVH Tech #1: "Yeah, some dude says something about NTP."
GVH Tech #2: "NTP? What's that?"
GVH Tech #1: "Maybe...Nintendo Timeout Problem?"
GVH Tech #2: "Tell him we don't support the Nintendo distro."

    That was awesome!

    Thanks for the laugh!

yeah, had this issue 9 month ago as well (see this post) -- for me they fixed it a few days later. Good luck for you.
Hopefully some day they will learn about NTP and timezone settings...

    Hello,

    Have you tried the timezone?

  • tr1ckytr1cky Member

Well, working fine on a GVH vps here:

    Before:

    After:

    Run dpkg-reconfigure tzdata

Don't really see the problem here.

If the OP posted direct command output, it's already correct.

From what he pasted it does seem like his timezone is set to what he wants it to be set to - "BST". Unless he pasted it wrong.

    Nothing.

I told the ticket, once again explaining the problem.

They made me a capure server screen, to show me that the time is right.

I rechecked my two VPS had good time.

I think they have made the necessary
