rrdtool ?
Why not use something like d3.js or something like it to generate a svg/css graph that is responsive and interactive rather than an old rrdtool graph?

Done with CSS/HTML (maybe JS for some, not sure)

Ehm I think OP should go with something newer than 2010.
Take morris.js, it's pretty easy to get a grasp of
Thanks for all the recommendations, guys.
Try http://www.flotcharts.org/
It's JavaScript, but you can pass along the data with PHP of course. I'm going to use this for my personal ping system.
That is pretty epic.
Seems to be the simplest one I read yet.
It is, I use it on my site and it's pretty smooth except it's not as advanced but hey it's a simple and fast graph for them who does not feel like making their own.
I use morris, it's great and very easy to set up. -> http://tbx.me/1VDuU.png
Do you have any ideas for displaying uptime? It's a binary status-up or down.
I display uptime on another graph but as ping responses (in ms) did you just want 1/0 then?
Yea, though I suppose if I used time as a continuous variable, I could use a line graph effectively. I don't suppose there's a way to shade the area under the line to make it more attractive?
Not that I've found yet, will have a look - I looked for this a little while ago too, as this isn't that exciting -> http://tbx.me/1A,h2n.png
Edit:
You could try Raphael -> http://raphaeljs.com/ & http://raphaeljs.com/analytics.html
That is pretty funky.!
Yeah the best way probably is to do with with JS, less system stress, don't have to store 100s of graphs (just the data) and it's going to be a lot easier to build something that looks nice in JS and CSS over PHPs image manipulation tools.
Did you consider Google Charts?
