I ordered a server in the New York location. It's reasonably fast, seems to get about 1gbps but it has 0 ping in speedtest to a NJ datacenter... Also it's windows only lol

Also, processor is an E5-2680 v4

The speedtest point is provided by Hyonix itself. So you just had pinging a neibor i guess?

Any use cases for Windows VPS?

You can virtualize Linux by using Hyper-V. XD

Ouch. At least to run asp.net maybe?

  • I've been using Hyonix since BF2020 and the machine works quite good, considering its hardware. Connection is fast - at least in UK - you can choose different Windows Server version - I personally have 2012 as it seems to be lighter

  • none need this windows vps

Point being it's not a New York server

It was mentioned US/ UK in location, so might have got one in the US.

It's not conclusive based on what you show us. And even if its really in new jersey, it's close enough to nyc to be a pretty good location. Do you know how big new york is? You would be better off in nj than let's say, buffalo, ny.

Legally speaking I did not get the product I was advertised (and there was no reasonable way to know this before purchasing), but within the culture of the site it is what it is :^)
Also I don't understand this part of the AUP
"- High Network Usage: Must not constantly use network at full speed (1/10 Gbps) for more than 2 hours."
    Does 1/10Gbps mean "1 or 10" or "1 out of 10 Gbps"?
But it is what it is, the server is reasonably performant and the networking isn't bad. I just don't know why I can't install Linux. Here's disk, feast. Also comes with Google Chrome preinstalled.

I would have been fine with any server location actually, it's a shame Cali was out of stock though.

Maybe with enough tinkering you could get Linux running on it?
If you can access the BIOS from a VNC or something, perhaps you could make it boot from IPXE... (Checkout https://netboot.xyz/)

Install windows and run a Linux VM on it.

Not sure about Hyonix but most places don't allow nested virtualization. Even if they did allow that, performance would suffer quite a bit.

"Must not constantly use network at full speed (1/10 Gbps) for more than 2 hours."

I would take that to mean "Must not use at full network speed for more then 2 hours"
    The (1/10) signifying if you have a 1gb or a 10gb connection.

i would presume it means youre allowed to nail the network for up to about 90 mins, whether your assigned network BW is 1G or 10G. XD
More seriously it seems just like a clarification of every other 'share the server you a-hole' AUP.
