Cheapest way to get a windows license
Hi,
I want a Windows dedicated server and I have a requirement for more than a few .
I was considering using kimsufi 4g and load windows onto it. For windows either you need to have you own license or pay extra 15 GBP every month which makes it a bit too expensive . So is there any way to get the license for cheap? I am fine with any version of windows (2003, 2008 or 2012)
Thank you

You can use VPS providers who provide free windows license.
https://www.saaki.net/support/cart.php?gid=14 - vmWare Virtualization - location Ukraine
http://www.hostkey.com/vps/ KVM/HYPER-V - location Russia
Etc
Buy one?
haven't had a great experience with some of them. so thinking of shifting to dedicated and no one provide dedicated with free windows
I guess the cheapest i can buy is for 150$?
Keep it with you for the rest of your hosting life
How are you expecting to get it "cheap"? Buying from someone else? Not a wise decision.
i guess i was mistaken. 150$ is for 5 cal license which is an addon,
the standard edition costs 800$
P.S. : I don't mind paying 150$
Find a college student with a .edu, get a Dreamspark license.
It's not like Microsoft is going to notice :P And they work with OVH.
Wouldn't that be against the TOS to give away/sell your Dreamspark key to someone else and then use it on a VPS?
Dream Spark TOS:

the cheapest you can get is a 180day trial..
Thanks a ton man
Exactly what I was looking for
I have 2 edu emails of my own
Does ovh allow trial version?
Not via their automated install system.
Have you googled "windows 2003 licence"? It should get you a few numbers to try out ;-)
Also, just wanted to put it out there you don't need a .edu for Dreamspark. Just email support and say your school isn't on the list and they'll activate you.
thanks.
Don't they ask for proof of being a student, ie scan of student card or some sort of report?
I guess the only way is to try.
But let me just say, Microsoft is notoriously liberal in their activation and replacement policies. If you have a serial for a keyboard, they'll just send you a replacement upon hearing that it's broken. If you have a pirated Microsoft Office key, they'll just make it genuine through a automated phone system.
Just skip the activation? Or set the date back after every 30 days on the computer?
OVH allows you to use SPLA Windows keys (or Volume License Keys) through the automated installer (at least they used to on the old one). I believe the keys through dreamspark are of the VLK variety, but I could be wrong. OVH has some topics on this --> http://forum.ovh.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2977
Plenty of hosts provide legitimate licensed copies of Windows Server 2003-2012. However, if you are looking for your own license, you can often find incredible deals on eBay.
Nope, I just told them the school I go to and they activated.
