Isn't that always the case? :-/
ofc! But imho for a proper risk assessment it usually helps to have a little more background info, like who is the company/developer behind it, has ever made any security audits, a comprehensive website (some pages are empty) etc etc. I can't say the panel is crap or not but, for a new project (the domain was created on 2019-02-24), it would be good to have a proper introduction instead of a mere "Why use OVI Panel?" spam-type-post.
@ITLabs
Agree with the sentiments. Even though there are obviously some rough edges, it does appear to be (visually) a pretty good cP clone. Might be worth spinning up the free version just to have a peek, if nothing else.
Ovipanel is a rip-off. Stay clear of it.
Define.
Around 1,500 meters clear of it. That should be far enough.

Can you point me to what post in that thread shows they are a "rip-off"?
I mean, we have people asking DA to look and feel like cPanel, and when one does, they are rip-off? Double standard and all.
Just read one page on the web yourself. I am not here to chew your meal, fucking millenial.
They are painfully late. They could have posted about the developments they had, if any with cPanel, if they wanted to. They didn't.
Well they are killing the market, we've switched to webmin and virtualmin which is good but not fantastic as it's slow for wordpress, which and normally traffic.
They are opputunist trying to use the situation in their favor. They seem to be from India as many of their reviews are by Indians (possibly hired) and even their own website is promoting some rajahosting thing. Would be much better if they had share some company information, goals and establish some sort of confidence before we can actually think about moving to ovipanel.
Backing DirectAdmin is the best option that we've found. We have started to move clients to DirectAdmin and making the switch for some of our other shared services as well.
For us it will be more of a split of services (DirectAdmin & cPanel). When DirectAdmin gets more features and supports JetBackups (JetApps considering making this at the moment) and clustered DNS (not just a manual setup) then we would likely move everything to them from cPanel.
That's what we are doing anyway - seems like many are doing the same which is reassuring
That OVIPanel looks like a Sentora fork with a cPanel look-a-like theme
I found is it run/owned by hostingraja.in or at least the website is hosted on their service https://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1752828&page=3&p=10164654#post10164654
The theme looks good but there is nothing behind them like about who runs it etc.
Does DA have some hook you can use at set events like account creation/deletion? If so, then surely you can write a couple of scripts to automate setting up slave zones? It's not particularly hard to do.
Yes it does, the problem is it would need maintaining - having it built into DirectAdmin as a core DNS feature would ensure it remains stable. DA are looking into adding this feature and for the meantime we can easily handle local DNS for DA and then move to clustered when fully supported.
DirectAdmin supports DNS-cluster since 2005 More detailed information on it: https://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=97
We spoke to their support team and they confirmed it wouldn't work with PowerDNS clustered DNS and someone they know made a few scripts that can be added at a cost.
I'm guessing this is also bad for those web agencies/freelancers that offer hosting solutions?
If the extra $ 2.40/year for each client is significant, yes.
@Hivelocity just reintroduced flat-rate pricing: https://www.hivelocity.net/blog/cPanel-flat-fee/
They made the error of giving 2 different prices for "500" accounts - should be either 1-499 or 501-1001.
So
at 100 accounts $32/100 = $ 0.32/month.
at 160 accounts $32/160 = $ 0.20/month - the amount cPanel is charging regular customers for an account each month.
at 499 accounts $ 32/499 = $ 0.064/month.
at 500 accounts $65/500 = $ 0.13/month.
at 1000 accouns $65/1000 = $ $ 0.065/month.
Their "flat rate" pricing puts you in the situation of paying $65-$32 = $33/month for a single additional account that puts you in the higher tier.
We fixed the typo. Thanks for that. While your assessment is correct regarding customers with 500 accounts will face a $33 increase in price when they add their 501st account, that price of $65 per month is less than what I expect you will pay anywhere else AND your next 499 accounts do not cost you anything additional.
BuycPanel just released their pricing https://www.buycpanel.com/cpanel-price-update/
Looks like there isn't going to be any discount on the cPanel Store prices
Happy news for all cPanel client's
I'll switch to plesk anyway, sooner or later
and end up with the same company that owns cPanel.
I've tested DA , You won't be disappointed trying it.
We switched 1 server to DA a while ago and I must say that it’s not bad to use. I was holding out on BuyCpanel to checkout their pricing and it seems we may as well convert the rest to DA.
Cpguard have their app coming to DA in a matter of hours as a Beta... but hey that’s good.
Only thing missing is JetBackup or Acronis, but the built in backup works for now. So may just stick with DA. It’s a good saving on cPanel especially on owned licenses.
Yeah I read that email from buycpanel, looks like they swallowed the blue pill.
