ErrantWeb - Storm Related Downtime
Hello,
Yesterday ErrantWeb experienced downtime due to power loss to our servers in the Detroit Metro location. In this post we would like to explain what happened and why it will not happen again.
Events that occurred:
-Storm Started
-6PM DTE Powerline to Datacenter was knocked down.
-4AM Generator Unexpectedly Shutdown
-4AM Data-center Staff Respond to Site
-They think the generator ran out of fuel, however it did not. The generator had a large enough hole in the gas line to suck in air instead of gas making it shutdown.
-New line was installed, a better quality one, and services started to come back online around 10AM
-Datacenter staff worked all day and night to bring everyone's servers back online.
-ErrantWeb Servers Came Back Online
-Last update we got the data-center is still running on Generator power.
If anyone has any questions please let us know, we're sorry for the unexpected downtime.

Wow. What data center was this?

At least the generator is working as it should be right now. Unlike some other DC's where it hasn't worked.

Sabotage?
Could very well be that it was rubbing against something, or was against a hot part.
Or could also be someone was just a moron and didn't use a fuel quality hose.
Or someone decided to steal some fuel
Tough break. Hope you recover soon.
Hopefully Waveform gets their power issues sorted ASAP. Good luck @errantweb
Doubt it, you would need to pass all of the servers, and every room has a card, the generator is way in the back. Probably someone didn't choose the best hose.
em... Detroit.
