X2goserver!
rdesktop
Perhaps I misunderstood.. xrdp allows you to use rdp protocol to connect TO a linux desktop... so I assume he wants to remote desktop to the linux server. If so x2goserver (does not use rdp protocol however) is a great option. (Rdesktop is just an rdp client for linux)
@wilbo - can you clarify what you are trying to accomplish here?
I want to connect from my windows laptop to a linux VPS with a desktop interface like RDP or VNC.
VNC works great if you don't need sound..
Also I just found chrome remote desktop, have not had a chance to try it yet but looks interesting

"Chrome Remote Desktop is fully cross-platform. Provide remote assistance to Windows, Mac and Linux users, or access your Windows (XP and above) and Mac (OS X 10.6 and above) desktops at any time, all from the Chrome browser on virtually any device, including Chromebooks."
What is wrong with tunneling X via ssh?
Oh you want to remotely access your Linux machine, sorry about that.
VNC works well, but I have also used NoMachine Server/Client with success. It uses SSH as the connection method, which can be convenient.

+1 on nomachine as @dano just said... I still use it a ton on an old vps of mine...
..but in my experience nothing rivals performance of x2goserver... I actually wrote a little tutorial on how to set it up on your vps...:

We have a tutorial for this too: http://www.comfortvps.com/VPS/How-Install-Setup-Desktop-KDE-GNOME-VNC-CentOS-6-Linux.html
Rdesktop and X2goServer are good choices.
