What are you aiming to filter?
How are you aiming to filter? (( DNS ))
Why are you aiming to filter?
Define cheap, please. How many users?
20 users.
Well, social sites, and porn.
Yandex DNS has an adult content filter
Pfsense....

30 roving taco trucks running pihole. It'll work believe me.
And ads.
My goodness! That's over half the internet right there.
Pi-hole would work with some custom lists. (It doesn't filter either of those two by default.)
OpenDNS
There are plenty of commercial offerings.
You could use 9.9.9.9 to remove malicious sites but not by category.
The only thing I need is to block some pages... is dnsmasq good enough?
Thanks 4 the suggestions, btw!
Your router Should do that much.
Google already filters heavily. One needs to go to "undesirable" site on purpose.
dnsmasq is what Pi-hole runs on. But I should point out that a technical user can circumvent DNS blocks rather easily. If this is just a safety (e.g. children) or courtesy thing, DNS will do the job. If you have a real need to ensure these sites are never accessed you'll need something more controlling, like forcing everything through a proxy you control.
Try Untangle, been using it for a while and it just works.
Thanks, will check Untangle.
I can guarantee no one over here (on the factory) can even download teamviewer correctly :P
Try https://nxfilter.org/p3/
50$/y+150$/y=200$/yearly for the smallest 50 users package, which includes both domain classification lists that they are currently offering.
Are they any good or are the lists the same as the free ones from pihole?
The daemon seems to be dnsmasq forwarder - same as pihole.
They claim https filtration, that seems like marketing, but also they say tor and ultrasurf filtration too... That seems overly enthusiastic for a dns filter.
PS: Damn I need to stop reusing words and have a train of thought.
What's the environment look like? Ex. If you have A/V, most can do exactly this. And it's usually free, aka you already paid for the A/V..
DNS is easy to bypass. pfsense is your best/cheapest option.
It seems opendns is not secure. @mxroute posted that on their twitter some time ago:
Also, while you're at it, write the dollar sign in front of the number. It's a bit cross eyed when it's backwards.
Blocking Porn is not a solution!
Use DNS and block access to other DNS servers and any non required protocols on firewall.
pfsense is also a good option.
We played with nxfilter and its pretty good
Your sentence is nonsensical. Blocking porn is an action. Whether that action solves a problem depends on the problem.
It may not solve every problem, but it does solve some.
