Dedicated Server Potential?
We're considering adding to our lineup by purchasing some lower priced, but nice, dedicated servers. What do you feel a dedicated server with the following is worth:
Atom D525 (1.8 Ghz x 2 + HT)
4 GB of RAM
500 GB HDD
IPMI
100 Mbps Unmetered or 20 TB on 1 Gbps
Probably available in California, Texas, Atlanta and Buffalo
Purely market research, seeing if we should purchase some of these or not...

if under $30ish id consider
I like it :>
40?
if you get a whole rack you can probably get the price down.
in 2012 colo-crossing offered this
Full Cabinet with 2 x 20AMP 120VAC / 100 Mbit BW: $950 / Month
if you get the cases that allow at least 2 servers per 1u. Is that enough power for 60
atom d525's? any way on with the math
30u worth of servers that is 60 servers. Gives me 15.83 per server. Should be able to pull of $25 per server and make a good profit.
@24k host - That assumes the hardware is free XD
@BlueVM
Well, wasn't building that in. You can depreciate that. I was looking purely colocation wise.
By the way there was just a pallet of these on ebay for fairly cheap. So used could even get a better price.
It's looking like we'll have to charge between $35 - $40 for them, but this community (no offense to anyone) is cheap, so it may be better not to do it.
I am still looking for way to make it profitable for you. Give me some time.

This could be your solution right here. That could make it profitable. If you build it yourself. and just have extra blades on hand should a server die.
I would pay it fyi.
Mind linking me?
Can't find it now but was there a week or 2 ago
@24khost you could probably find cheaper colo for these since they won't draw much power, probably 30-40 Watts per box. But to be able to put two in the opposite sides of the rack you need to figure out how to reverse the airflow (i.e. make one front to back, the other back to front).
@BlueVM - Looking for creative ways to make some extra cash?
I've seen similar setup in Canada (probably OVH) w/ 2GB RAM for USD20.
I think I've seen this setup for around $59
@BlueVM where is your dedicated servers page?
I'm sure it was http://bluevm.com/dedicated.php
I'd offer something others don't. Offering what many other providers already do, for already lower prices doesn't make sense to a customer unless you are in an exclusive location or undercut. Note that those are my thoughts of the market, I may be wrong :-)
@DalComp we don't offer Dedi's on our site right now.
If you could do that at $35 I think it would be a big hit. Problem is making it profitable, of course. Perhaps via attractive upsell? Ask @qps their experience on upsell opportunity on the $39 dedis. I'm not sure if they'd be willing to share, but it could be an eye opener. Room for anyone in that range market right now.
I would grab one for under 35, if not two.
