I am surprised to see you getting such good results to Japan. When I traceroute from my VPS, the route to JP goes through EU to US and across the Pacific... As you can see, I'm getting 1/10 the throughput to the official Linode test server. What explains this difference?
Route to my JP VPS (Vultr JP, Linode JP 2) is same with the official test server.
Perhaps official server is congested, so I suggest you create one from Vultr or Linode to test if you need, results will be much better than official one.
And IIJ works better than NTT / KDDI. Here is test result from lg.spb:
I'm not too worried about it. But, FYI, I am seeing different routes to speedtest.tokyo.linode.com and speedtest.tokyo2.linode.com than to your test server. For example:
If you mean routes to tokyo and tokyo2 is different, it's right because they're in different datacenter with different BGP blend (KDDI single homed / NTT + PCCW + TATA)
And the lowest latency path from St. Petersburg to Tokyo I can find is Khabarovsk (we also sell VPS in Khabarovsk) + Linode Tokyo 1 / Data Hotel (for example https://cloudgarage.jp).
Yes, latency and performance is good from Khabarovsk to JP.
You said that the route from St. Petersburg to the official Linode (?) speedtest servers was the same as to your VPS, but that is not what I see from my VPS there. I should have posted the traceroute to JP2 (below). Routes to both Linode test IPs go through the US, though.
