Friendly advice to hosting providers
Please stop with annoying live chat requests. I love being able to use live chat when I need help, but I don't need popups and stupid door bell sounds. I usually end up closing the tab, and I'm probably not the only one who finds it annoying.
It's enough with "Live Chat - Online" in the corner.

Yeah, when the Live Chat starts to popup and try to sell you stuff I would just click on the X
or check you have a working keyboard.
Agreed, this is extremely annoying. Nothing wrong with having a live chat, just make it not obtrusive.
And if you have a live chat, please make sure that someone answers when a message is sent.
What if the livechat would greet you with a discount code ?,
OHHyyy Yeahhh
The best kind of live chat
@Clouvider do you live chat even without discounts?
We stopped some time ago. Wasn't too popular. Instead we respond in <5m to a message you leave when we're offline.
However, there's a plan on replacing Zopim with somethig else that actually doesn't require to put a staff in front of the PC to respond (Zopim is known for their screwed up mobile app). This should help with discussing sales stuff.
As per procedures, since we're unable to identify the Customer via Zopim we wouldn't be able to provide any support through it regardless - we're fast With dealing with tickets when you need us.
I was recently violently ear raped from a certain provider after opening their website on mobile with headphones in. I have contacted them and they have removed the auto popup
Keep in mind that these types of chats have the psychological effect on some people to keep them interested in the website that they are visiting. Whether it is working or not is another question. The annoying beeping sound is no accident. It all depends on your target audience whether you should use a chat system like this or not.
I get the impression there's some mixup here. Were talking porn sites - right?
Even more annoying is when they put a picture of a cute girl in their chat box.
Who would seriously think it's THAT girl ?
Meh.
@FredQc ... and you're like "she sounds oddly like a man. I've been scammed'!"
someone always looks in happy in these generic photos. does anyone why they always make these photos have super bright white wallpaper?
Probably because they shoot them at the same time as they do medical services pics. "OK, everybody, drop the stethoscopes and let's do the same now with headsets."
GOD bless Intercom
I'd prefer a hosting company whose support department looks like this:
And also please try to avoid the word "UNLIMITED" in hosting packages. Fair usage limits should be stated to avoid confusion.
Unlimited as well as unmetered word can cause confusion while offering cheap parts .
Dear Sir or Madam,
FIRE! FIRE!
Did you assume I was either male or female?
No fire , but have you tried to turn your pc off and on again ??
I had it for around 3 months, the problem I had was people want to use it for real-time support and 90% of the actual pre-sales questions were people looking for sponsorship or free servers, it no longer made sense to keep it running time wise.
Pretty much this.
You need to frame customers' expectations. If they see Live Chat (TM) they think real-time and quick help for any dumb Managed (TM) config issue they have.
I trained an under-skilled foreign staff for 24/7 Live Chat (TM) once and I can't say it was my proudest accomplishment. . .
Livechat was cancer on minerack back when I ran it. We would get people coming on demanding 3 - 4 full dedicated servers in exchange for some automated broadcasts. We'd get people that would paste half a page of text to us in their first message.
We ended up adding a catch into the system that if it saw the word sponsor it auto replied with "nope."
Francisco
"hello, why was my ticket asking for a free 64gb ram dedicated server closed??"
Had a fun one yesterday, some Chinese guy opened a sales ticket asking for a trial VPS.. With 32 IPv4 addresses and port 25 had to be unblocked, ermm... Nope!
don't mind them, but some are poorly implemented e.g. it returns after every page load regardless of shutting it down
In my experience if a company can't afford staff to answer the phone for support then the only way is support tickets. Nevermind some crappy substitute. I get 24/7 phone support from one provider and it's great, but I certainly don't expect that on LET services and that's just fine by me.
