Can this be beat ?
US East location with:
i7-6700k
32GB DDR4 RAM 2133MHz
(2) 256GB Samsung 850 Pro
/29 IP Space 4 Usable
30TB Data Transfer - Free Incoming BW
GigE Port
50Gbps DDoS Mitigation
$79 with bi-annual payments
I wouldn't mind going with slightly lower CPU passmark if iGPU could be allowed/used. - hw transcoding purposes
SSD is still preferred but doesn't have to be samsung 850Pro. 1TB or 2 500G would work.
32G Ram would still be ideal
BW the same or better offer due to moving data across different cloud providers ie google cloud and amazon cloud also for streaming of plex.

If you're trying to transcode a lot, you might look at Dedispec GPU servers. They cost more than what you mentioned but you can set them up with very fast NVidia cards that will transcode faster than any conceivable CPU.

Disk/SSD speed won't matter much. Transcoding is all computation.
With the current cpu which is about 11k passmark can do a good 4-5 1080p transcode. I was able to get the provider to enable the use of the iGPU which then reduced the cpu utilization tremendously. Which then got me thinking something with 10k would be overkill if iCPU could be used on a lower cpu chip and wouldn't require a separate GPU card.

Pretty close with monthly payments and almost US East
I was actually looking at them and online.net but with online.net I felt peering or what not would be flaky at times. I was getting random speeds using their speedtest. If SYS provided a large SSD option would have been great option.
I guess I could go with sata disk which would reduce the price some I assume. The free incoming bw is pretty nice though which most providers dont offer. OVh and comp do have the unlimited with 250 Mbps guarantee which is nice.
https://www.hetzner.de/hosting/produkte_rootserver/ex41sssd
i7 6700, 64gb ram, 2x256gb ssd, 30tb transfer, ddos protection, free incoming, 30TB outbound
313 euro for the first 6 months when you spread the setup fee, which makes it 52 euro/month for the first 6 months effectively. Add about 1 euro per ip on top of that, and it should be easily beaten.
You could also look at https://www.hetzner.de/ot/hosting/produkte_rootserver/ex41ssd which is the same, but 2x500gb ssd and 32gb ram.
Germany based.
Thanks I looked at them as well and had the same issues with online.net. Was hoping for east coast if possible to reduce the latency. I did get pretty good speeds off some KC hosting speed sites so central may work as well.
For the price you could even proxy them through a buyvm slice or something similar. Should fix most speed issues.
Never thought about the proxy part. Will have to give that some thinking. Not a bad idea.
Wait what? Get faster transfer from Hetzner to US by proxying through BuyVM (I guess Luxembourg)? That sounds surprising, is it for real? I never thought of anything like that but might try it, hmm.
Peering between hetzner and buyvm might be better than peering between hetzner and your generic home isp, plus peering between buyvm and your home isp might be better than that too.
Some people even managed to use cloudflare's free plan to proxy plex.
I understand the theory. I'm just surprised to hear that it works in practice, if it does. I've always wanted a slice(tm) so maybe this is a good pretext. Will try first with an hourly DO or Vultr instance.
Australian friend of mine downloaded about 10x faster through cloudflare than directly from online.net, same source server
You mean the Intel graphics? That's interesting. I guess that stuff is better with the current (Skylake/Kaby Lake) cpus than with the older stuff (I have an i7-3770, Ivy Bridge iirc). I'll keep it in mind for next time. Thanks!
Yeah cpu dropped to basically 0 once hw transcoding was enabled. I may check out @Dedispec GPU offer to see if they allow iGPU and have a better setup. With the current provider I have to request a ikvm to be plugged in for it to continue on reboot. Not sure why exactly. They said something along the lines it interferes with the impi or something. (shrug)
You could try paperspace.com which has hourly rentals of fast GPU instances. Not real cheap but if you only want to try it out...

Thanks however this is mostly used for Plex so would need to be up constantly. I have been at a crossroads about this... Do I go to a lesser CPU chip that has iGPU with a provider that allows it or stick with a chip with 9k+ passmark. Bandwidth also becomes an issue since data is transferred between cloud providers on the server as well. I might be able to go with a cheap unmetered vps to do the cloud to cloud stuff there. Really need to put some more thought into the route I want to go. The other suggestion of going to an EU server with unlimited or soyoustart and then a vps on east coast is another good idea as well. I guess only time will tell and what great offers comes out will determine what path I will take.
Why is this so hard ... waits for @Nekki to comment ;P
Tried bidding on Hetzner recently?
I haven't tried that route yet due to latency but if the VPS plex proxy route works I may give that a shot. Will poke around to see if others have/are doing that. I know there has been some posts about using cloudflare.
