Lithuania Dedicated Servers - COMING SOON
Hello all.
I'm shipping a bunch of old servers (desktop/consumer grade) to Lithuania from Hong Kong.
Low end dedicated servers just don't make sense in HK (space and power costs too much). So I'm thinking Lithuania may be a better home for these things.
Any interest in the following?
i7-4770 32GB DDR3 RAM
i7-3770 8GB DDR3 RAM
i7-3770 8GB DDR3 RAM
i7-2600 8GB DDR3 RAM
i3-3240 16GB DDR3 RAM
i3-3220T 8GB DDR3 RAM
i3-2120T 4GB DDR3 RAM
i5-661 16GB DDR3 RAM
HDD/SSDs as required. Of course both the RAM and Disk is configurable and will be priced accordingly.
As they are consumer grade, and without the fancy stuff like IPMI, of course these will be in LET pricing $30 - $49 (more depending on the HDD/SSD). These (along with another 10 or so machine) will be arriving in LT by October 24th. I'll probably post again, but i'm curious as to the numbers interested in such offering at the given price range.

Why Lithuania? and not France, Netherlands, Germany, even USA?
Is Lithuania that good to worth colocate them over there?
Just out of curiosity: is the cost of shipping including the cost of the servers, worth all this?
Because we have our own facility in Lithuania. It is our own infrastructure. We are not paying extra to colocate. The space is already paid for, so to speak.
They are not being shipped as entire/whole servers but as motherboards/CPUs/RAM. As such they can go into a reasonably sized box, low weight and can go by air. We have a bunch of chassis and PSU already in stock, so all we need are HDDs. We have plenty of HDDs in HK actually, but I figure they are unlikely to survive shipment.
What MBs do you use on these I7s, so they can fit in smaller boxes?
Any IP to check the latency to your DC where these servers will be setup ?
I dont have the exact models but they are using either ASUS or Gigabyte. The 2 i7-3770s are on smaller boards that can only take 2 sticks (16GB MAX). But all boards are MicroATX.
@Junkles, PM me. I'm somewhat reluctant to post IPs on LET since everyone seems to DOS them apparently? Don't know how true that is. With that in mind we have some DDoS protected IPs too which we can share.
45.123.190.130
Will share unprotected IPs via PM.
Unmetered bandwidth? guaranteed connection speed?
Why Lithuania is bad location? Why FR, NL, DE, US is better?
No worries, I've misread the thread. I initially thought that the boards support IPMI, while you specifically said they do not.
Good luck!
I don't think he said anything particularly bad. I understand the question though. Why Lithuania? Why a small country that hardly anyone has ever heard of, and not a big country. If that is indeed what he meant, then it's perfectly understandable.
Here are some things Lithuania has going for it as a location for hosting servers.
1.) Excellent connectivity
2.) Geographic centre of Europe. Within 40ms to most of Europe.
3.) Cold climate = less cooling = greener/eco friendly
4.) Inexpensive property - Lots of space to house the servers.
In HK, the heat, and high cost of property (limited space) make these kinds of servers not viable commercially. And we can bring these machines back to LT with practically no cost, so it seems to make sense.
We can provide 5TB data transfer on Gbit ports.
time4vps - 90ms
the ip you given 150ms,
not really good location for europe i think
with the above IP i get 59.9 ms, not bad from Finland.
with the price he saying and 5tb bandiwth i think online, or kimisufi are better option for ms, maybe network still not ready ?
The IP provided has IP-transit with DDoS-Guard - a DDoS protection provider.
You would be routed to a scrubbing centre in Moscow or Netherlands.
Latency would probably be lowest in Western Russia (outside LT):
http://bgp.he.net/AS133398#_prefixes
If you look at their peers in LT, I think the latency would be comparable to time4vps (not DDoS protected)
Yep, I get routed to NL from my Swedish VPN; 93 ms.
DDoS Protection may have higher latency. Typically in LT, the added latency would be 50ms. Outside of LT, the latency difference will be less pronounced. DDoS Protection is provided by DDG, so traffic may be routed via Moscow or Amsterdam as that is where it is being scrubbed.
So beyond the Baltics, the latency difference may only be 0 - 20ms. In some rare cases it may even be faster.
Our LT peers includes: CGates, Bite, Baltneta and CSC.

How about these IPs:
www.vpsbit.com = 103.253.42.25
www.mhost.lt = 45.125.66.163
103.253.42.25 time=44.3 ms
45.125.66.163 time=23.0 ms
the 45. look nice , make me an offer :P
What do you need?
Can you make it with big HDD like 1TB+ and less RAM ? I'll use this server for seedbox purpose only.
1Gbits port (shared) or 250Mbps guaranteed
Large Disk = Yes (1TB is not that large.. don't even buy new 1TB HDDs any more)
Less RAM = No (we don't buy or stock 2GB sticks. It was a mistake as is to buy 4GB!)
250Mbit = Not guaranteed/dedicated at <$49. Bandwidth isn't THAT cheap. Not yet. You can buy more though.
Did you end up figuring out the extra fees the shipping company tacked on?
I told the shipping company in HK that they should sort it out or I would take legal action against them in Hong Kong (small claims). Eventually they paid the Lithuanian company. We received our chassis, eventually.
Now I am planning my actions to take against the local shipping company that made up the ridiculous charges. They will regret their actions! MUAHHAA
