Noob Question, what to do when a repo dies?
Now that repoforge is down how would I go about installing OpenVPN.
The tutorials I've seen online all use repoforge.org
This is how I started it off last year, but now that my box expired and I'm switching to a new provider I have to set it up again.
Yes I know I could use Nyr's script but I'd like to do it myself so I can learn for the future.
Since repoforge is dead, and hasan't worked for the past few weeks what should I do.
https://github.com/repoforge/rpms/issues/375
These are the steps I usually take when installing OpenVPN.
wget http://openvpn.net/release/lzo-1.08-4.rf.src.rpm wget http://pkgs.repoforge.org/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el6.rf.x86_64.rpm rpmbuild --rebuild lzo-1.08-4.rf.src.rpm rpm -Uvh lzo-*.rpm rpm -Uvh rpmforge-release* yum install openvpn -y

Uh...use Debian?
I use centos 6 64 bit
been using centos on all svrs for past 2 years
i like yum, not a fan of apt-get, personal pref.
Uh...learn Debian?
You always have the option to compile from source
you can learn from nyr's script. open it with notepad
rpmbuild the openvpn package from source: https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/faq/75-general/289-how-can-i-build-a-binary-rpm-package-for-my-specific-linux-platform.html
One line to build, one line to install.
Could also maintain your own copy on OpenSuse Build Service (Which also does Debian/Ubuntu builds among RPM based distro)
Why not use EPEL? OpenVPN is being built there: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=2700
debian, thx

Im not very familiar with Redhat family, but why cant you just use EPEL or something?
ps: no dont use debian. Long live RPM masterrace.
That did the trick. Easiest solution. Thanks!
