You can get dedicated servers for peanuts now, I suggest using them! If you are seeding from a private tracker, moral issues aside, DMCA should not be an issue and most providers won't mind.

Of course they "mind" legally... but who works for a DC and doesn't "abuse" their power to download the latest FreeDVD-6.4-GOT.iso at 100gbits?

We always allow to host Linux ISO torrents :) . But unfortunately, no illegal content.

    HostSolutions.ro - @cociu 's romanian hookup. Cheap but I've never actually used my $6/quarter VPS...and only 30GB disk.

Why haven't you used it? It rocks for me.

Whew. I've never pursued illegal content. I guess that would be child porn or something.

  • Unless you are exclusively using them to seed to public trackers and act as a 'buffer' between yourself and a DMCA request, don't use them, they suck

also, when they advertise X0Gbps, realize that it is mostly Cogent, and the 10Gb links internally are all, I shit you not, setup using IPoIB using old mellanox infiniband cards the owner got from ebay - ghetto as fuck

  • I used to have a container at VPSDime - torrenting was allowed (if there were no complains). Very cheap - 500GB @ 7/m - maybe you could ask them if they still have the plan somewhere.

Seconded - been using MikroVPS for their XEN plans and I have one of their Openvz offerings and I was blown away by how great they have been.

These have been discontinued for new sales.

You must have gotten lucky. I paid 20EUR for a "setup fee" on a server that doesn't work.

Here is my online.net experience so far:

    • Monday morning: order 8.99 online.net box

    • get notice it's provisioned. Check portal and answer the basic OS config questions. I see it's setting up.

    • a couple hours later I try to ssh...no dice. Check and it's still in "dedi server start". Hmmm, something must be stuck, retry installation.

    • a couple hours later still stuck in "dedi server start". Cancel and restart installation.

    • a couple hours later...yeah, open a ticket. Server is "encountering a PXE boot issue" and they are "investigating"

    • and here we are the following morning and the status is unchanged, with no updates.

Not impressed so far. I guess that "setup fee" doesn't cover much actual "setup".

Mine has been running fine. VPS is actually pretty good - responsive. Network is...meh...I struggle to reach 2MB/sec. I don't mind that since I'm rarely in a hurry and it's just a VPS so I don't expect big speeds. But I did laugh when I started an scp of a 13GB file to a buyvm storage at 4pm and forgot about it, then got an email at 7am that it had just finished...that's something like 250KB/sec.

Woo hoo! My box is online.

Now let's see how many Linux ISOs this Atom C2350 can push.

Actually, what should I expect from an Atom C2340 (2c @ 1.74Ghz, 4GB RAM, 1TB)? I'm expecting it to run as well as a typical low end VPS...

    It'll not be that bad, 1TB disk+4GB RAM+Unmetered 1 Gbit/sec NOT a lowend VPN Though :D

I see similar upload speeds often tbh, sometimes less. Download is always as advertised (350Mbit), but the upload seems utterly random. Changes from minute to minute too.

I used feralhosting last month and was able to only seed 3gb uploading of Linux isos. Not worth the money.

Amazed to find 256GB RAM only cost 22$/year

    OpenVZ
    256 gb Ram
    80gb hdd
    1 ipv4
    2 tb/mo transfer

    @cociu: I assume that is a typo.

Damn, and I was hoping the 1.1.1.1 IP I was auto-provisioned was my permanent IP :-)
