Most lightweight UDP proxy with encryption? (no OpenVPN)
Hi, having low resources Linux VPS which i want to use as a proxy for my home computer (i mean so i can browse internet, and use it for my softwares to have encryption and better anonymity).
I need it to support both TCP and UDP traffic and the traffic between home computer and proxy must be encrypted. Which setup is good for this? Is there any tutorial?
PS: i tried OpenVPN, but in Vista, there is some error with virtual device. I simply canot make it works, i already googled and everything. I will use OpenVPN, but after i change OS.
Also i dont want to buy any VPN service, would like to use my Linux OpenVZ VPS for it. What are options for this encrypted udp proxy?
So far im using SSH socks proxy (manual there), but it do NOT support UDP. For UDP i used Dante (sockd) (installation manual) but i found that somehow when i turn on Torrent client (it using UDP), web browser stop loading webpages (browser traffic goes thru SSH socks proxy which is on same Openvz vps).

As far as I know, OpenVPN GUI community software is compatible with Vista. If you don't mind, knowing your VPS specs would help me further help you.
shadowsocks-libev on the server side:

+1 for shadowsocks
@thagoat , @pechspilz
thx, i tried to install it on my Linux CentOS VPS as a server + Windows Vista as a client, but it do not connect, can you please take a look?, i described details here: https://github.com/shadowsocks/shadowsocks-qt5/issues/266 thank you
@LowEndAddiction my VPS is CentOS 6.5 64bit 512MB RAM
On the server side, try replacing : "server":"127.0.0.1" with "server":"your server's actual ip"
On the client side, try add a line: "local_address": "127.0.0.1"
See if it works.
why dont you try openvpn-as, with just a few commands, the rest are just click with Gui.
You want http://neorouter.com it supports transport in 3 methods:
1. P2P UDP
2. P2P TCP
3. Routed through server
It is a bit of a different setup than your standard proxy or vpn, so you may need to take some time to understand it, but it will do what you are asking and there is a free version that works quite well across Linux, Mac, Windows, Android, etc.
my 2 cents.
Cheers!
Softether ?
Because he sell vpn?
@netomx
SoftEther VPN looks good, there are two interesting linux centos tutorials: http://wp.secretnest.info/archives/1529 and http://prev.sysadm.ru/linux/vpn/SoftetherVPN/centos/6/
That worked to make shadowsocks proxy working. I just had to use real server IP in the server configuration file, instead of 127.0.0.1. Thanks alot for help. For those having issues installing, here is the tutorial for ShadowSocks Linux+Windows installation.
Anyway, when i started torrent client using this proxy, it did not worked and also web browser using this proxy stopped working for some minutes. Not sure why, but this happens also for SSH socks proxy and Dante. Probably VPS gets overloaded or somehow limited, even CPU is idle and RAM is plenty free.
Too many open connections exhausting your ulimit limits like "file descriptor"?
See if increasing the max amount of open files helps: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-increase-the-maximum-number-of-open-files/
ShadowSocks needs a bit optimizing to work at the most stable performance level and at greatest speed: https://shadowsocks.org/en/config/advanced.html
Or maybe your provide is just having a atrocious network or counter measures (I hope not) to prevent people from hosting/using such services.
Just change the Vista to Operating System.
