@MarkTurner something must be wrong with your math or it is not standard ext4 filesystem. I just did a test, I get variable rate ~10MByte/sec when downloading 25GB file to my VPS there, and ~2MByte/sec when downloading files from VPS to local PC (using Samba sharing and VPN encryption, so it adds some overhead)
@exception0x876 - Please explain your testing.
@MarkTurner There was nothing special about my testing, I downloaded 25 GB file to VPS, obviously it was saved on disk rather than /dev/null. The download was finished in like 30-35 minutes.
Can you run fio on your box and test the actual write performance. @K4Y5 put the command line above
It is the same that @K4Y5 got, but multiplied 2x. Maybe because he got 50 IOPS limit instead of 100. My point is this test is forcing 4K blocksize, while in fact they may use different blocksize. I am using this VPS as a Samba network share and I transfer huge files (few GBs each) back and forth. I never was capped at 400KB/s.
@markturner @exception0x876 Ran a mixed R/w test for 15-20 secs with a 4gb testfile.
READ iops limit = 100, WRITE iops didn't exceed 36 during testing.
