Computers connected to PPTP server can't resolve domains
http://thesinclairs.gotdns.com/blog/set-up-a-pptp-vpn-on-ubuntu-server/
I followed that guide to get my Windows 7 laptop connected to a PPTP server on a LEB that I have. It will connect to the server, but I can't get a single domain name to actually resolve, and I'm not sure where I went wrong.
Server is Ubuntu 12.04 x86
I can't even get my Windows 8 to connect to the PPTP server . Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
EDIT: Found the answer below!

The DNS settings on your laptop perhaps?
@Chan disconnecting from the VPN will allow connections to work as normal
Yeah, I'm an idiot, I got it now!
If by some chance someone else runs into this issue, I followed http://www.64bit.co.uk/index.php/archives/223 in the end, and it worked perfectly.
Specifically, I had to set the following in /etc/pptpd.conf
and in /etc/ppp/pptpd-options, comment out
EDIT: Windows 8 is still rejecting the connection though, and yes, the IP is correct.
"No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it"
Is it possible to ping IPs like 8.8.8.8 ?
@Freek - that's what I'm using on the laptop now (and the laptop is connected to the VPN, everything is working fine, a few websites like Microsoft's load SUPER slow though)
The Windows 8 system just flat out refuses the connection after about 20 seconds with the message "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it"
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE
check if your lan is eth0, or if openvz.. openvz changes
Got that in there. Double checked /etc/network/interfaces and it is eth0. I feel like my issue is moreso related to Windows 8 though since the Windows 7 laptop doesn't have a problem connecting.
Hmm.. check if the VPN has "pptp" and not: automatic.
@netomx - Set it to PPTP, now it's saying "The connection was terminated by the remote computer before it could be completed"
firewall?
@netomx No anti virus
also, after disconnecting from my Windows 7 laptop it also refuses to connect, and so does my iPhone. Hmmmm....
I bet it is the provider's problem, might want to check IP rules and what not.

There is a script for setting up everything automatically.

oh my god, thank you!
host said they had to cast some spells and enable PPP traffic or something, so maybe I'm not insane either. that script is super useful though!
@Maounique
is it normal for the VPS to spike to 100% CPU when I try to connect?
No, it isn't.
Any idea what the cause of this could be?
white is my server's IP, black is my connecting IP
