Reprise Hosting (AS62838) is a provider of best value hosting services. We specialize in low-cost solutions for real-world hosting needs. We are pleased to announce our new cheap dedicated server special.

Our BGP mix of NTT, Abovenet, Hurricane Electric and excellent peering over the Seattle Internet Exchange (e.g., Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Netflix, Akamai, Charter, T-Mobile, OVH, CloudFlare, Yahoo and more) enables us to offer dedicated servers with low ping times across the Pacific and the Atlantic:

Global ping test results provided by NTT and HE looking glass servers. These are optimal ping times. The routing and peering of your local ISP will determine your latency.

You should be able to use all the promo codes at once -- my guess is that you're having difficulty with the IWANTUNMETERED promo code. That code requires you to first select the "50Mbps unmetered bandwidth" add-on -- the promo code will then lower the price of that add-on to $0.00 per month.

If our billing system continues to reject simultaneous use of the promo codes, open up a ticket after order submission and we'll make the appropriate adjustments. The important promo code to use during checkout is ZZED10 because that will lower your monthly payment.

The chassis for this particular server special supports up to three drives. We commonly configure these servers in mdadm RAID1 for our clients.

  • Was going to pull the trigger on this, but then saw this horrible trace. Comcast Seattle, going all the way to LAX and then back to Seattle. Most all my local clients would be using Comcast, so that sucks.

  • Seems to be bad peering between Comcast and CNServers, Spartanhost is the same result.

  • Well....:

BrianHarrison said: These are optimal ping times.

Is not the case. Yea, sure, your HE path HAS a latency of 124ms to London, but if no one uses HE there (like Liberty Global)... not useful. Same as above posted comcast, just 130ms worse.

Also, being network oriented and clearly advertising that... please provide a looking glass (or if you have one document where....), even if it's just simple trace/ping and no bgp, else claims like that will end in refund requests and issues at one point.

The peering issue is a recent development between Voxility and Comcast. In general, Comcast peering is poor in the Pacific Northwest. We route through CNServers as it becomes necessary to mitigate attacks -- for some users, this may increase latency. For other users, it may reduce latency. In any case, this particular peering issue will be sorted out within the next month or so.

No William, those are indeed optimal ping times. Let's recall what optimal means:

Optimal: adjective - best or most favorable; optimum.

We clearly state that those are ping times to NTT and HE looking glass servers and they should be considered a best case scenario. We then provide a test IP address so prospective customers can test latency from their own home connection or anywhere else. There are no secrets here...

I am surprised that you, representing another hosting provider, would make a reply to a competitor's offer and re-state what was already made clear in the original advertisement.

One path. No one guarantees the return is the same and this is not client visible.

Not saying it is scam or anything (certainly not) but not having a LG on a multihomed network sold to end-users (so not like mine own use), especially with exchanges involved, is not a good practice simply already for debugging.

Setting up a LG is simple.

William, I am well aware of how a looking glass works and the unique network insights that they offer. They are indeed easy to setup. If your point is that we should post a looking glass with our ad, then just state that. Your color commentary is both unnecessary and unprofessional.

If you'd like to chat further regarding this issue, feel free to message me directly.

I don't need to be professional either - i do not do business with you or other US companies nor do i sell hosting services here - Further you tried to claim simply not true points which my post above cleared up, you nowhere stated the return path can be different.

The testing case you explained - test IP for trace - is simply not informative or helpful to the original issue; i'm well aware there IS a test IP already. If we want to spin that.. your answer is the unprofessional one then...

  • As far as I can see it

    These are optimal ping times.

should be interpreted as "these are the most optimal pings anyone will ever be able to reach if they live in a datacenter" and not as "these pings are perfect"

Almost everything seems to be good enough, except the HDD. Reprisehosting provides servers with ST1000DM003, a desktop class HDD, not a server class or enterprise class HDD. A little worried about reliability.

    Hi Axel,

That would make you one of exactly two customers using that particular drive. Our inventory was stretched to the very maximum as a result of the orders received from this server special. WD RE3/4 are the standard drives we use.

Generally speaking, there is no difference in failure rate between "enterprise" and "desktop" drives. Enterprise-grade drives can be important for certain RAID deployments and some enterprise drives can withstand vibration better, but in your case RAID and vibration are a non-factor.

Either way, if the drive class is important to you, please feel free to open a ticket through our client portal and we can have you switched over to an enterprise grade Western Digital drive. We do appreciate your business and we want to do whatever is necessary to ensure your satisfaction.

  • Highly recommend this company. I rarely write reviews but have been lurking & snagging offers for the last couple years; this is by FAR one of the best hosts out there at this price point. We use ours to host very high resource gaming servers (OpenSim), and after going through 3 other LEB/LET hosts, we finally found one that could handle it - flawlessly. Unlike a lot of providers out there, you don't get whatever junk they happen to have lying around & throw together to call a server - this is well maintained hardware I've paid 3 times as much to get. On the few occasions I had to contact support they were friendly, professional and willing to do what it takes to get the job done. No "best effort" here, just, simply, the best. In 3 months we experienced zero downtime, and even with Opensim's extremely high bandwidth & cpu requirements we never lagged. Planning to move several of our other servers over from OVH by this spring, excellent host, thanks guys!
