Looking for a lower end/older dedicated server.

I decided to make a "request" post because the "offers" section seems to be "out of stock" on deals I am interested in.

So here it goes:

I am looking for something to host a few (3-4) very small VPS installs along with doing network backups at night. I use BitTorrent Sync (but could use something else if personal torrents are not OK) for some desktop syncing. I also need OpenVPN for personal use (1 user). I can use ssh tunnels if OpenVPN and/or personal BitTorrent Sync/OpenVPN isn't allowed. Port 25 block is no problem. I do not host porn, or any illegal content.

Specs:

  • Unmanaged -- no support needed unless there is a hardware issue
  • 16GB (much rather have 32GB)
  • Dual CPU with multiple cores, 2.4GHz or higher
  • AMD is no problem
  • At least 2TB (2 1TB or single 2TB) SATA total storage
  • I'm flexible regarding data transfer per month and would prefer to be on 1Gbs port but 100Mbs is OK
  • Prefer (but don't require) full time access to console server out-of-band
  • 5 IPv4 minimum
  • Locations: Kansas City/Central USA, Los Angeles, Texas, Atlanta are OK depending on network
  • OS would be Debian 8 64bit
  • Access to rDNS (support ticket is OK but rather be able to set on my own)

See here (http://imgur.com/a/1doPB) for really good examples.

Obviously I would want it to be as cheap as possible.
This setup needs to be under $45/month -- $40 is ideal. Money is very tight right now, and I want to be sure there isn't a problem with paying the bill each month. I've seen plans from a couple Midwest companies that come really close to what I am looking for. The problem is that the storage is too low or costs too much to add. Other times, they are out of stock.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Ciao!

    Hey!

GoMach5 can offer you something. We're located in Los Angeles and colocated with Psychz Networks which is well known around here for great quality vs price. This is a great West Coast Location which is extremely popular due to great routing to Asia.

    Location: Los Angeles

    Dual L5420 (2x4 cores, 2.5Ghz, 12MB cache)
    16 GB RAM
    500 GB SATA 7200
    /29 IPv4 (5 Usable IPs)
    /64 IPv6
    5 TB Bandwidth @ 1 Gbps

    $44/month using coupon code LEB

    Order Here

I know we don't meet your 2TB disk requirement. However, if you'd like to pay quarterly I can toss in a 2TB upgrade for free.

You can contact [email protected] or just PM me here and I'll set things up for you!

  • You have different choices, here you go:

Datashack, Wholesaleinternet, QuickPacket, Dacentec, Online.net, Kimsufi

  • @andreamada those are usually who I go to first (Datashack,Dacentec, etc) but the pricing is a bit off and they are out of stock for others. The screen shot I included via link shows inventory from Wholesale/Datashack. I appreciate your time in posting though. :)

Here are some dedicated servers options for you:

    Dual X5150, 16GB RAM

    500GB disk

    1 IPv4

    /64 IPv6

    5TB bandwidth on gigabit port

    Dedicated ILO/KVM

    Hardware RAID controller

    $30/month paid month-to-month

    $20/month paid quarterly

    http://www.delimiter.com/landingpage/servers2015/?p=X515016500

You will need to add to that:

    /29 Subnet $8/month

    Upgrade disk from 500GB to 1TB $5/month

    Add second 1TB disk $15/month

Total: $58/month paid month-to-month (above your budget)
    $48/month paid quarterly

    Another option:
    Dual E5420, 8GB RAM

    500GB disk

    1 IPv4

    /64 IPv6

    5TB bandwidth on gigabit port

    dedicated ILO/KVM

    $20/month paid month-to-month

    https://clients.delimitervps.com/cart.php?a=add&pid=160

You will need to add to that:

    Upgrade 8GB to 16GB $5/month
    /29 Subnet $8/month

    Upgrade disk from 500GB to 1TB $5/month

    Add second 1TB disk $15/month

Total: $53/month paid month-to-month (above your budget)

One point, you wont be able to use Bittorrent on these systems. Delimiter does not permit Bittorrent.

  • @MarkTurner:
This is definitely what I am looking for...
I should mention that I'm not looking to use Tor (relay or exit) or IRC.
Will check it out. Thank you @bersy

If you can get around the Bittorrent requirement eg use SyncThing or encapsulate it in an SSH tunnel or other tunnel then I think it will be a perfect fit.

    QuickPacket can do

    • Dual Xeon L5420
    • 16 GB RAM
    • 2x 1TB Hard Drives
    • 20TB Transfer / 1 Gbps Port
    • /29 IPv4
    • /64 IPv6
    • Atlanta, GA location

    $39.99 per month

The system does not include IPMI/KVM over IP, but we can provide a temporary Spider KVM over IP as needed.

If you are interested in proceeding, please PM me. Thanks!
