So right now there is a bug regarding ovz (may include kvm) and ubuntu16.
When you upgrade systemd to 229-4ubuntu21.9 the next time you restart the server there will be no ssh and a few other services may be affected too.
Last stable working systemd is 21.6
This happened to me and I had zero clue what was happening.
I made a bug on launchpad
And there are already several other bugs about it. In the bug thread you can find a way to downgrade your systemd.
I also added my own failoverssh service to be sure.
I do not know about other ubuntu versions.

I don't run systemd infected distro version with ovz. (stick to 14.04)
You can remove shitstemd from Ubuntu 16.04 though (recommended).
Well, systemd and OpenVZ 6 with its ancient kernel are not natural bedmates.
