BuyVM Las vegas too slow almost throttled speed, access from Malaysia
Hi guys, I suddenly have crappy speed from my Las Vegas vps (buyvm). I just test with several provider also from LV and they seems crappy too almost like they're capped. started speedy then throttled.
my vps seems fine though. connection to other server tested OK.
Does anyone experience the same? I'm from Malaysia

WinMTR might help you.
Thanks, Will try that
funny thing is, downloading WinMTR also too slow..
I can download and stream from many website just fine.
*edit
just try WinMTR, its like ping plotter! does this have any advantage compared to ping plotter free?
It's like traceroute but multiple times every minute, so you can see if you are getting packet loss, and at what router the packet loss is occurring; and then maybe you can contact your ISP or your provider to fix it.
This is other LV : SLOW

Blame your ISP.
LOL
Do we want drama or not?
Is that how Asia is treated?
Now run "mtr" from all three towards you home IP (or to 202.179.117.37), and post those too...
from my VPS terminal:
Amsterdam
Singapore
Malaysia
Bulgaria
nah, its no biggie, I'll just wait till tomorrow and see
I just own 1 vps, the other two I just found their ip on LEB
how to out put mtr to txt?
btw
a comparison to another Malaysia based VPS
Man this brought back some memories.
Haha I'm actually curious if my ISP had marked and throttle connection to my VPS, although unlikely.
they already throttle torrent, hence the use of vps as personal seedbox and vpn. I can get another ISP but this one has its perks
You can press ctrl+q or ctrl+s (don't remember which) to pause it, and then you can copy.
Edit: ctrl+s to suspend, ctrl+q to resume.
My guess: You are dealing with latency issues. With a round trip time of ~ 200ms, you'll have to make sure that the VPS on both sides (BuyVM and Malaysia) are probably configured.
Depending on the Linux kernel you're running, and the amount of memory your VPS has, it's possible that you're facing limited network buffers that limits the total throughput given the high latency you're facing.
Try the following tweak on your BuyVM VPS:
echo 12582912 > /proc/sys/net/core/wmem_max echo 12582912 > /proc/sys/net/core/rmem_max echo "10240 87380 12582912" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_rmem echo "10240 87380 12582912" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_wmem
Then perform the network test again. If it worked, you can make the settings permanent, e.g. by adding the following to your /etc/sysctl.conf file:
net.core.wmem_max=12582912 net.core.rmem_max=12582912 net.ipv4.tcp_rmem= 10240 87380 12582912 net.ipv4.tcp_wmem= 10240 87380 12582912
PS: Of course, you should also check the other side (i.e. your VPS in Malaysia, and apply the same tweaks if necessary.
Hi Mangkook,
Was it fine earlier this week? Say, on Monday?
Reason I ask is Fiberhub just added TWTELECOM to their mix which is great for the US but doesn't do much for Asia/EU.
I saw it as one of the hops in your trace so it's possible he still has to tune some routes.
Let me know or log a ticket and we'll have Rob adjust the path. for your ISP. If you have access to other ISP's in the area test them out as well so we can get more tuning in
Thanks,
Francisco
Watch out Fran, Mao will turn up soon......
Just tag him.
Hah
NTT is due sometime this month which will help a lot with speeds to Asia. I'm not sure if it'll help latency, but for at least China, NTT should provide much better speeds.
Francisco
Having some fun. ignore me....
I envy your bandwidth from Malaysia @mangkook
Something wrong with BuyVM Las Vegas. I got the same issue with my VPS. I'm downloading using Unifi.
If you have to use las vegas location from malaysia i suggest trying provider which is using switchnap dc or a dc with level3 upstream as maxis peers with level3 at LA.
Switchnap Trace and Ping to Maxis:
Maxis is a crap provider. Stick to major one like tmnet.
I am from Malaysia as well, i don't seem to have such issue with buyvm AFAIK
UNIFI = ? Is that an ISP in Malaysia?
Francisco
Pretty sure UniFi is a wireless access point.
EDIT: https://www.tm.com.my/Home/Broadband/unifi/home/Pages/About-UniFi.aspx some fiber service.
Unifi is the name of the internet package offered by tmnet(tmnet is an ISP)
Just like comcast's 'Xfinity'. What a fancy name for a package lol
Aah
I brought this up with Rob so he'll poke around today.
Francisco
Unifi is FTTH by TM.
Why am I tagged here ?
If you need speedtests, I can give you some but as far as I can see everything is fine to EU (Amsterdam):
Getting similar speeds from LA Colocrossing:
Bucharest:
It must be some routing problem to your ISP.
Edited to post best of 5 tests
