Seems like the default server bear script has broken and few of the mirrors of testing download speed removed.

  • I am using URPAD's 1 GB RAM LEB Black Friday special. And it seems that they have blocked these URLs, right URPAD Guys ?

  • Resolve the URLs to IP and traceroute to confirm

  • The files seem to download just fine. Do you have proper nameservers configured in /etc/resolv.conf ?

Check your disk space, and if that's all good, try a trace route (though I suspect disk space cuz you were able to connect, just not get the file, though wouldn't it normally tell you about lack of space?)

You try grabing the file via curl? (maybe with verbose output).

Also since your traceroute doesn't seem to be going past 63.247.71.196 like mine, I'm guessing maybe it's blocking you for whatever reason?

Is what interests me. This isn't a statement of the remote file not existing. I'm half awake but I wanna say a write issue. Might need to contact urpad or try reloading os on the vm.

  • @darknessends you didn't try to run two serverbear benchmarks in parallel i hope?

  • No definitely. Also the manual wget is now not working.

  • @darknessends - sounds like your problem.

Although the serverbear wget urls have been getting annoying - softlayer is crap to pretty much everywhere once you get out of the geo, and why throw in a guy who has 20/200mbps in .au.

Have also noticed that when a download site is offline it'll just hang for ages. A quick header test on the file or even a ping or telnet check to the host to make sure it can respond before attempting the download would be good.

  • I do not see it as my problem, I have disk space, I can connect and ping the server.

  • Reinstall with different OS and try again.

It's Urpad, they don't want people seeing how oversold their black friday servers are.

@darknessends - I meant if a manual wget isn't working it's your (server) problem as oppose to the serverbear script, which is working.

Could still be something strange with urpad, who knows.

  • Can we get the results of a 'df -h' and a random wget to any large link that works?

I think that'd help us to actually understand what's going on - trying to find something in the dark like this doesn't really help.

  • Maybe @serverbear could comment?

  • @darknessends said: No definitely. Also the manual wget is now not working.

    nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf ?

    +1

Linode hostnames could be 127.0.0.1 if you are using their nameservers.

Resolve all the hosts on your VPS to confirm.

It looks like he pinged atlanta1.linode.com and got 63.247.71.196. Either I'm glossing over something really obvious or it's an issue with the node or container.

Sorry, I missed this thread for some reason. We're in Australia so we've been looking for decent tests to give people here an indication of speeds/latency.

We do plan to overhaul the download tests at some point (default set or choose what you want to include), but they work reasonably well at the moment.

Any suggestions feel free to shoot me a PM, always open to feedback good or bad :)
