Hello,
Does anyone know of any free (or very cheap) support ticket systems like Zendesk, and the same for invoicing systems like CurdBee?
I don't like CurdBee, and haven't yet found a ticket system I can get on with.
Just to manage a few private clients.

I use trellis desk for teachers who prefer a support ticket system. For the rest, I use a traditional wooden door and verbal communication.

It's pretty robust as a ticket system, it's been around for many years.

I did make this quite clear:
Desk.com is free for 1 agent, or ZenDesk is $20 a year I think. Uservoice also has a very nice helpdesk with a free option.

take a look at codecanyon.net and check out the php applications. or search for a ticket system. some are very inexpensive and they are one time costs not monthly.

Leaning towards HESK at the moment for support. Still a bit stuck with invoicing though Invoicing recommendations? CurdBee is OK, but not great

I need an invoicing system now. Preferably ticket + invoicing all in one, but I can't find one that's free/very cheap.
RT for ticketing works great, altough the interface is a little hard to get trough at first. If you need good customer support, go with Zendesk. it just works very good, (the new interface), and it is easy to set up a knowledgebase. You might also want to check out ORTS, that also works quite well.

Have to agree with @Randy. We pay $102/3 months with our live chat system (LiveChatInc) and we pay for the service and features it provides for us so $29 for a well written peace of script is more then inline with the price.
You could also use https://arcticdesk.com
But it does depend on your usage, as you probably won't need the extensive features Kayako has so perfectly understand not wanting to get that
