How to run a script on a VPS without stop
Hi,
I'm running a script (factorizing) that can take almost 1 month...
I'm with on a Vps with KVM, and normally I log in with putty, however, my question, it's, if I shut down my computer at home, putty window will close, how can I do, in order to put this script running, even after I close putty window?
Comments

It works on debian on my laptop, so it should work with putty too.
Just type screen
And run your own command.
Your program will still run on background
I had to
apt-get install screen
then change to where it's located my script
cd /root/rsa
screen
time ./factmsieve.py example &
I can close putty window now and my script it's running on background?
how can I check it's running?
when you open putty next time you type "screen -r"
You may also use nohup
SSH back into the server and run
screen -ls
thenscreen -R xxxx.blah
where the x's are the numbers you see in the list.In the future use
man blah
orblah --help
it really isn't difficult. You probably also want cpu_limit before your vps provider kicks your ass.
don't think so... I have this VPS for 3 months and not even a day of use... now, I'm doing this only for one month
3 months? Good thing you bought it.
to compile this script it's not something that you can do in 1 min...
I doubt it makes a big difference
