Need a VPS sponsorship for a Christian School

Need a VPS sponsorship for a Christian School

edited August 2012 in General

Hello everyone...

After sending out mails to several good hosting providers and talking to them personally, i was unable to find any provider who should sponsor a VPS for a Church and a School. Many of them politely refused, many didn't even reply and many on the live chat disconnected the chat.

Now I want to see if anyone could sponsor us the VPS, so I kindly request all of you that whosoever could, please sponsor us a VPS with the following specifications:

Ram - 1 GB Disk - 10 - 20 GB Bandwidth - 1000 - 2000 GB IP Address - 1 And good uplink and downlink speed.

We will be able to put a line at our website which would read "Hosting provided by the courtesy of Host Name". I hope some one among the good people here will help us out.

Please send me a PM if you wish to have some details or if you wish to help us out, I'll be eagerly waiting.

Thanks to all. Cheers !

  • I can provide this for you at Seattle, if you recosider your BW requirements. For 10k unique hits monthly I use much under 100GB on my main website. I can not see how you could consume 2TB of BW for a simple website.

Disclosure: I work for Query Foundry LLC.
I own DA International Group Ltd.

Msg @William and hope he's had a beer or two or recently got sent some free pizza?

I'm sure someone will give you this just for good publicity now you've made the thread, lol.

  • 1TB BW? for what?

Opinions/Posts are to be assumed my own/personal and not company related unless obvious

Actually I am not sure about the bandwidth. The website will have photos upload of 2-3 MB each and 2400 people would be related to it. And the site has a background sound of 4 MB so I don't know how much BW is required. Please recommend what would be good for it.

Seeing as how I work at a Christian school and a church, you have my attention ;)

If you don't find what you need, shoot me a message.

  • Just to be fair to all of us here, before give you help, I think you MUST explain what the VPS will be used for

Hint. Even Nigerian scammers put more effort into mail to look legit than your anonymous request for donation. With proper introduction people would take you more seriously.

    @NanoG6

I agree completely and I understand that :) So, whosoever will be sponsoring will be given all information that he will require by PM.

  • tkpstkps Member

@Spirit I will just keep the hope sir :) Might be someone will help.... and I will provide information about what the VPS will be used for how and all other info.

  • @tkps said: And the site has a background sound of 4 MB

Just a small (general) tip: Noone uses background sounds anymore. Good luck with finding a sponsor.

  • tkpstkps Member

@gsrdgrdghd The background song is a prayer related to the church. I will try to reduce the size of remove that as per your advice and thanks for the wishes

  • Nigerian scam..:)

  • tkpstkps Member

@LAKid If you need please PM me, I will get you my address and phone number, you can confirm then. Also I will give you details about the organization.

  • If 2400 people would be related to the site, why don't you raise $15/yr, it would be cents per person.

  • Is there a reason why your institution cannot afford to pay a small amount for a VPS? You can get a free one from host1free.com if you really cannot afford one.

I have hosted one with uptime metrics and stats.

    @LAkid and @kkasberg

That is a good idea to raise funds but here people don't take risk to donate online and it is difficult for us to convert the donations given in the Church into online payment.

And host1free might not be too much reliable for us. I have got a sponsor. I will post the name here once it is confirmed.

  • @tkps said: it is difficult for us to convert the donations given in the Church into online payment.

Does your church not have a bank account?

  • tkpstkps Member

@ miTgiB Yes dear sir, actually the money we are having is used for charitable purpose which is collected through school and Church. And I am a student of the school and I can build the school, we got the domain registered for 10 years which was sponsored to us by one friend. So we have saved money that way and a VPS sponsorship will help us save more and that money could be used for charitable purposes.

Although we are a registered organization and do have a bank account.

This has kind of been a thought process that has come with the inevitable maturity that comes with age (you know, the minimal amount) for me. If it's meant to be done, the means will be provided. Generosity is biblical, but so is compensation ;)

Interesting, I see no emails regarding this, and I just looked through the live chat logs and didn't find any conversations regarding it, either.

I am no longer affiliated with IPXcore.
  • I mean like.. compress your photos and remove the song. Or, consider moving all your stuff to a Facebook page unless you can justify to yourself 'why I need a VPS'.

Selling multiple 2000-user GApps :) Shoot me a message to make an offer.

Isn't that too large for photos hosted on the net?

Why also 1GB RAM? Is your website written in Java?

I understand and respect all your views and comments but still I'll not leave hope. And I know why I need the VPS and also that I am not joking or scamming.

He came on our live chat yesterday and it was fairly clear he was asking a lot of companies. Needless to say I fired back my one-word policy on sponsorship: "no".

$5/month is a lot to some people, just as $20/month is a lot to a lot of people here. It's all relative and largely based on where you live.

if your photos will be straight from digital camera, you may need a 1TB disks in the long run. You also dont need to be a developer. You just need photoshop or something else.

In addition, if you don't have developer, I don't see it how you can install things or whatnot on the vps. better if you use shared webhosting. idiotproof

People who don't know how to compress photos shouldn't be putting them on websites, at least not without the web application being capable of compressing them itself. Lack of knowledge from the content provider is no excuse for a broken website to the viewer.

@jhadley..... Sir the hosts which were online I just talked through live chat, the ones who were offline I mailed and few chat operators asked me to mail so I mailed them.

As far as i'm aware WP Super Cache compresses photos automatically, you should look into that.

  • tkpstkps Member

    Dear friends

Please don't take it personally, if you can help please send me a PM otherwise just ignore this post and as @jhadley said .... its different for different people some can afford $1000 and some can't even afford $1.

Thanks and sorry if I made you guys angry I didn't mean to do so...also sorry if you feel I am asking for too much.

  • tkpstkps Member

    @gsrdgrdghd

Thanks for the information, I will use that for compression from here on. Just one question sir...will it compress while the uploading process itself ? Or first the original file will upload then it will compress....if this is the case then it will be difficult for us to handle as we'll have to delete the original files manually then.

Get a free shared host and Google for a bulk picture converter!

  • How about you offload the images to somewhere like imgur.com? They allow hotlinking, and would load up just fine.

The audio file? Just upload it to dropbox in the public folder. You're allowed roughly 100GB of bandwidth through that per month (don't quote me on that though) and so should do just fine.

Then, just find a cheap/free web host, point the domain to that, and hey presto.

Not the most elegant of setups, but hey, it'd work!

there are many ways to host a church website online for free. Google apps gives you free hosting with sites, premium for free for charitable orgs Appfog gives you a decent cloud (2GB RAM and 2GB space) for running any custom apps and even wordpress. Storage can be used with dropbox/ box as public files amazon gives free ec2 for a year to base yourself apart from all this, we have many websites like this who are ready to host a church website for free

So have you thought of similar things before you decided for a free vps?

I think I have got someone who is willing to help and sponsor us, so thanks everyone. And I really appreciate all your help

In NA and Europe churches and christian schools are very wealthy organizations... that's why most people in this thread are hesitant to give assistance. In my area alone a church has purchased a full ad load for the public transit in the area.

Those initial requirements seem high for what a school needs. You are reluctant to provide your information, so even more to be suspicious about. How does posting a little info publicly, jeopardize your request?

A shared hosting provider would do better for you.

  • I have absolutely nothing constructive to add to this thread, but I'd like to say that Right Reverend Doctor Bishop is one of the most bitchin' titles I've ever seen. Typed out like that it's only one character shorter than his equally rad four-name name.

I think if I could just get one more name, people would take me more seriously.

  • I will gladly sponsor the website adn exchanged a dozen of PMs with the OP. I will however activate it after I get a confirmation from the landline of the school he is working for.

  • You're a good man, Charlie Brown.

  • @tkps said: Yes dear sir, actually the money we are having is used for charitable purpose which is collected through school and Church.

My original comment was not meant to be nice. You wish to reserve money on hand for charitable functions, but your website will be a driving factor at raising future donations, and is such a small fee, the effort you exert trying to receive this as a donation could have been spent doing charitable work instead. So you've just wasted needlessly more funds than you are trying to save.

Our Manager Rev Father Anthony Solomon and Principal Sister Rosilin are taking care of the charitable work.I did my work of handling the website and

I really thank Alex_LiquidHost and Damian as they offered the sponsorship. Just verification is left now :)

As of now Alex_LiquidHost has sponsored us the VPS so thanks a lot sir and I really appreciate your generosity.
