    Nice bandwidth amounts, I only hope you will offer KVM as well.

  • Nice offer :)

    @rm_

    We do actually offer KVM in the past, but stopped selling it due to amount of spam abuse. There are some customer unfiltered by MaxMind/FraudRecord, buying like 3 ~ 10 VPS, only to start spamming intentionally until the host suspend them and never reply anything to the host inquiry. By the time Spamhaus sent us the notice, our /24 was banned for a while, without even giving us the chance to resolve them first. OAH also stop selling KVM partly due to abuse, too.

    To prevent this, on OpenVZ, we can automatically suspend VPS if SMTP conntrack (automatically polled on hostnode) exceeds abnormal amount. Relying on Spamhaus abuse notice might be too late and we need an instant safeguard like this on KVM. Well, we haven't found yet. If you / any big hosts out here know how to handle this kind of problem, that would be really appreciated to know :)

    @0xdragon,
    Thanks, really appreciate it :)

    You could track SMTP on the firewall instead of host nodes. This is not a good reason not to offer KVM.

    @rm_,

    Well, you're actually right. Everyone has to learn at some point, and in the past we didn't have any prevention measure like this :)

    Anyway, we will looking to offer KVM vps in near future again (this time with prevention measure). Thanks for your suggestion :)

    I thought this would be 1 TB storage offer by the title. :)

  • MelitaMelita Member, Host Rep

    @Radi,

    Sorry, title edited, 1 TB BW instead of just 1 TB.

    Hi, I would like to order one VPS in Singapore but when I try instead of $5 it shows that I have to pay $6.61 see screenshot can you please let me know why?

  • rm_rm_ IPv6 Advocate, Veteran

    @keresh Pretty sure it's through the end of February, and $5 for March. A bit unconventional system, yeah.

  • No offer for IIX? :D

    yeahhh,,they use Pro rate billing,

    that's mean $1.6 for February and $5 for March..

    It's cheaper when your first order in 14th..

    @keresh,
    As other has stated, it's because of pro-rata billing. We prefer to get all reporting, accounting and taxing done by the start of the month. If you scroll down a bit at that same page screenshot, you will see following info:

    Orders submitted before and on 15th day of the month will be billed for the remaining days of current month (eg. 10th to 30th). This is normal, you are just paying for less than 1 month of services, we did not discount the prices! Next month the price will go as usual. The equation is ((30 - date) / 30 * price)). So if you sign up on 10 October for $7 VPS, the charge is ((30 - 10) / 30 * 7)) = $4.7. Next due date will be 1 November for $7.

    Orders submitted after 15th day of the month will be billed for the remaining days of current month (eg. 20th to 30th) + next month. This is normal, you are just paying for more than 1 month of services, we did not raise the prices! Next less than 2 month the price will go as usual. The equation is ((30 + date) / 30 * price)). So if you sign up on 20 October for $7 VPS, the charge is ((30 + 10) / 30 * 7)) = $9.3. Next due date will be 1 December (less than 2 months later) for $7.

    @ErawanArifNugroho,
    Sorry, full at that moment (for local city customer). Decided to sell Singapore location instead due to much better international connectivity (and far cheaper, of course!)

  • Why 32MB of vSwap? OpenVZ providers usually offer at least 128MB vSwap or just none at all.

  • MelitaMelita Member, Host Rep
    edited February 2015

    @ub3rstar,
    If you order and ask in support ticket, we can actually make your vSwap higher to 128MB, but your main RAM memory will be reduced by 96MB (128-32) instead. The end result will be the same.

    This is due to:

    1. Marketing psychology. Most people (not all) tends to prefer 512MB RAM, instead of 256MB RAM + 256 MB vSwap, because 512 is higher than 256 (psychological things).

    2. I've heard (not confirmed by me) that some application might not work if there isn't any Swap space at all (programmatical requirement to crash the apps instead, not actual resource requirement). That's why we give small swap space in order for these type of applications to start properly.

    3. OpenVZ vSwap is not the same as normal linux swap. When VPS (container) RAM limit is reached, memory pages for that VPS are pushed out to the virtual swap. The difference between normal swap and vSwap is that with vSwap no actual disk I/O usually occurs on the host node who host all those VPS. That vSwap will most likely still resides on host node actual RAM. Instead, that VPS is artificially slowed down, to emulate the effect of the real swapping. Actual swap out occurs only if there is a global memory shortage on the host node.

    Since we want to avoid this artificial slowdown (how much the actual slowdown is remains to be seen, haven't benchmarking it), we prefer to set main RAM as high as possible and vSwap as low as possible without actually deleting the vSwap itself. You can read more in http://wiki.openvz.org/VSwap

    Just chiming in to provide a +1 for this awesome provider, had quite a few problems last month on their budget location, but @Melita took the effort and worked through the night to move me to their premium location which is on the same network as OneAsiaHost / SG.GS (AS24482) - prepaid for an entire year since I trust this provider. Only problem for now on their premium location was recently when they had quite a few node crashes due to a NAT PPP module crashing their nodes after OVZ containers with the module loaded were stopped, which led them to disable that module and taking the opportunity to upgrade their kernel on the node. Don't think I've received so much transparency and this amount of dedication from a provider before :P . Difference between OAH and them is the cap that OAH imposes on VMs to hard cap 100M bandwidth limit, while IndoVirtue allow up to 1G burstable.

    They've also been around for quite a while, since sometime back in 2012 and 2013, so since they're still around it must mean they're doing things right :3

    @Boltersdriveer,

    Thanks for your +1, really appreciate it :)

    We are sorry about our budget Singapore incident. There is no null protection on DDoS event in there, which means any reflection attack pretty much resulting in whole node downs. Premium Singapore have null protection by default, and DDoS protection up to 10Gbit for additional costs, ensuring on more reliable uptime.

    About crashing module, disabling nf_nat_pptp fix the stability issue on node crash when rebooting VPS with PPTP service in it. Keep in mind that we can still deploy normal PPTP server on VPS even after disabling this module. The details is listed in https://bugzilla.openvz.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3155

    Also, thank you so much for your trust upon us on yearly VPS commitment :)
