  • what can you do with his IP btw. And why would you actually need help from a Singaporean user ?

This IP is from Singapore :D Just wonder if we could trace the IP or co-operate with the local cyber police? :(

  • I don't think ordinary people are able to help you except with the steps you need to do, in order to get to the police or department in charge of that type of problems.

  • Yeap. We cant help much. Maybe you can check out and send your enquiries to www.spf.gov.sg and look for the TCIB department

  • Right now, I would like to know which service he's used to hack the domain (VPN, VPS SSH...?). Could we know it with only the IP?

  • Just because you have an IP, it doesn't mean the hacker was actually at that IP. In general hacks often come from a chain of compromised machines. That IP is likely just some previously hacked box and not the person who was actually doing the hacking. At least that is my experience with these kind of situations.

I would fix the compromised box and harden it as much as you can against future hacking attempts that are about as certain as the sun rising in the morning. It could have been any service that was the weak point. Move on and don't dwell upon the transgression.

Not that it really matters, but isn't Singapore a bad place for illegal activity. I mean they will whip you for chewing gum. What would the penalty be for hacking there?

  • @cleonard

haha this is a "fine" country. Penalty for hacking for is equivalent to criminal breach of trust which equals to fines of more than SGD5000 or Jail Term or Both.

  • @giang

you can try and check out those services or any possible open ports / service or daemons that is running on facing public internet on the compromised box. However there is no possible way that we can check the IP and see what it is accessing.

Singapore doesnt have that Firewall Of China to begin with. Yes they censored popular porn sites and racially unhealthy sites but other than that Singapore is very mild when come to censoring and consumers are protected with privacy policies by various consumer groups / organizations / govt

  • @cripperz: he was using this IP as VPN :(

@all: he was hacking the domain, not the server. He breached Godaddy security and transfered the domain out of GoDaddy for about... 3 hours!!!

  • In that case, you should be bringing this up with GoDaddy, or giving what you have already to the local authorities. Trying to dig any deeper yourself could just result in getting yourself in a fix... and this really isn't the right place to try and go for vigilantism.

I'm just trying to help him. But if it's the case. I will just let the authorities and GoDaddy do their job :D

Best idea you have had yet. IDK this so called "hacker" but I do know if you mess with the wrong person and or group, you will be the one losing not your friend.
