  • @luma, Sorry, I did miss your question but Iann took care of it for you. We'll have a dedicated back up box in Montreal as well -- storing backups on the node would be foolish :)

Guess I'm on a slow node (bulyea):

    Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5520 @ 2.27GHz

    [root@vps ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 5.37329 s, 200 MB/s

    --- . (ext3 /dev/xvda1) ioping statistics ---
    30 requests completed in 29080.2 ms, 399 iops, 1.6 mb/s
    min/avg/max/mdev = 0.2/2.5/7.9/3.2 ms

    --- . (ext3 /dev/xvda1) ioping statistics ---
    30 requests completed in 29196.0 ms, 157 iops, 0.6 mb/s
    min/avg/max/mdev = 0.2/6.4/15.8/4.1 ms

  • @dmmcintyre3,

The only benefit from going to an E5 over an E3 is the additional processor and the additional RAM. Other than that, the E3v2 still is a damn good processor and overall lowers your power consumption, even under load. :)

Why are you all fighting over CPU? The E5520 is more than the node needs, and E5-2620 even more so, it always comes down to the disk subsystem that makes a great node.

And just for grins, these are all taken while the node is empty just after being built

    E5-2620

    L5520

    E3-1230v2

    E3-1230

Now we've all spoken with guppy in #lowendbox, and know his newest nodes are dual E5-2620, but we also know he is using 15k SAS2 8 drive arrays, so very excellent nodes and nothing to argue over.

  • I'll be writing my own review soon. I'm really happily surprised by LFCVPS. I am on the E5520 node and so far it is really great.
