Hi

Some may have seen jhadley on here advertising that he would be starting a new business as a kind of "hobby", to do a bit of testing and to get a few customers.

I was one of the first people to purchase one off him. There were a few initial delays with hardware and stuff, which he emailed me about and I was fine about and in no hurry.

Here is a test file download....

[root@dominicl ~]# wget http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.bin
--2012-06-17 17:34:38-- http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.bin
Resolving cachefly.cachefly.net... 205.234.175.175
Connecting to cachefly.cachefly.net|205.234.175.175|:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: 104857600 (100M) [application/octet-stream]
Saving to: `100mb.bin'

100%[======================================>] 104,857,600 10.3M/s in 11s

2012-06-17 17:34:49 (9.18 MB/s) - `100mb.bin' saved [104857600/104857600]

And also...

[root@dominicl ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync && rm -f test
16384+0 records in
16384+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 3.27601 seconds, 328 MB/s

Overall, very happy. It is SSD-based so it's definitely worth it!

Well done James

  • I presume 100MBit line? I'm curious how the hardware will perform with some more people on that node. Can you do a geekscore? ;]

    Am guessing so.
    Where do I do a geekscore, sorry?

    100Mbit line, yes. Depending on demand I can get it upgraded to 1000Mbit but guessing this will be ok for now.

    Geekbench of a the 512MB package is 7123 http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/747384

    Everything is restricted on the servers so that the values remain roughly constant as more servers are added to the node.

  • Look at that. A response from the man himself, good one James.

    Wow. that's an insane score :o, may I ask the location, and DC of these servers?

    Edit: Your site tells me these things. (might I say, awesome blog / personal site too!)

  • That is very impressive.
