Favorite Color for professional website?

When you design a website, What is your favorite color for header section? I tend to like Darker colors like Dark Red, Black etc.
What about you? If any other color, any reason?

Agreed. Typically a mid-light grey for text against a darker background. Much easier on the eyes than staring into a lightbulb >_<

For me it's the other way around. I prefer the layout and colors of sites like nyctimes.com, bbc.co.uk, guardian.co.uk (the best IMHO).

I think blue green and orange are my prefferred, but I don't dislike gray and black for serious content :-)

I would like just black and white, if you want to go "REAL" professional.

    Blue/Gray/Green/Black/Red ...

It doesn't really matter what colors you use... it's the way you use them.

You might also want to check what the colors might have for a meaning in the culture of audience you are targetting depending on the advertized product.

@nabo colors also create a mood and a predisposition in the visitors mind.

Red being danger and anger :O

That's what I was refering to.

Red being danger and anger :O

And that depends on the culture. In China red is a positively connotated colour being associated with courage, loyalty, honor, success, fortune, fertility, happiness, passion, and summer. And in traditional Chinese culture it's connotated with weddings. (Ok, that might be the Western connotation of danger ;-)
