Agreed. Typically a mid-light grey for text against a darker background. Much easier on the eyes than staring into a lightbulb >_<
For me it's the other way around. I prefer the layout and colors of sites like nyctimes.com, bbc.co.uk, guardian.co.uk (the best IMHO).
@Aldryic haha. True.
Trying to do a site but confused with the color skim.
I was planning to do Some DarkRed header+ slider+White Body + Lightish black footer.
Trying to get an idea regarding text color for that Red background and I am lossssst.
Too white :P
I use F6F6F6 for mine..
Blue, cause it's my favourite colour + it's easy on the eyes.
I refer neon green
"Google Grey" is my favourite.
I like gray and red, or gray and blue.
glossy site looks nice. i like black, blue
White.
I think blue green and orange are my prefferred, but I don't dislike gray and black for serious content :-)
I would like just black and white, if you want to go "REAL" professional.
Obviously Green is the Ideal choice. :-)
.
Blue/Gray/Green/Black/Red ...
It doesn't really matter what colors you use... it's the way you use them.
agree
I love twitter bootstrap blue color.
Purple on black is an amazing combo.

You might also want to check what the colors might have for a meaning in the culture of audience you are targetting depending on the advertized product.
@nabo colors also create a mood and a predisposition in the visitors mind.
Red being danger and anger :O
That's what I was refering to.
And that depends on the culture. In China red is a positively connotated colour being associated with courage, loyalty, honor, success, fortune, fertility, happiness, passion, and summer. And in traditional Chinese culture it's connotated with weddings. (Ok, that might be the Western connotation of danger ;-)
Orange / Blue
