I wouldn't trust a Chinese phone either, there is probably spyware on it. That's the rumours going around.
Do people now buy phones based off benchmarks?
This is one of the best providers in China atm, hopefully soon in the world
as if privacy is well protected in the states
Buy handset trough invitation? Crazyness thing probably happens only in US.. Nice way to increase sales for overpriced device. No better handsets around? Later they been around street markets on demand
Probably a LOT more trustable than a lot of other things you use in life without a second thought -- http://www.forbes.com/sites/parmyolson/2014/07/31/chinas-xiaomi-becomes-worlds-5th-largest-smartphone-maker/
Yeah trust our beloved nation US! Seriously, so you dont trust Samsung and HTC as well?

Just found that. iBuyGou is a reputable seller.
Oh forgot to take a look at ibuygou. Anyway I paid less for a used Nexus 5 which looks like new :P
@drserver I would suggest you a Nexus 5 or a MI4. As I said previous I have a Nexus 5 and I'm really happy, great quality and a lot custom roms. On the other hand I had a Xiaomi MI2 and the quality was awesome as well, but don't expect custom roms for it. But MIUI (the system installed on Xiaomi devices) is the most awesome android based system which I've ever seen. You should definitely take a look at it on youtube. If you plan buying a MI4 wait a bit. The price will fall soon (about 2-4 weeks). Regarding your LTE frequences, I live in Germany and I know that I need the WCDMA version of mobiles to use 3G/4G here. I don't know what you need for the US, AFAIK it's TCDMA. But you should find it out before you buy your phone.
Cyanogenmod is availble for mi2 :P

Yeah, there is MIUI, MIUI-Mods, AOSP and CM. But that's not much, anyway MIUI is the best
btw where are you from?
Sweden :P
Ah nice
might be reputable but super inflated by 90 dollar, but that happens to almost every popular chinese phone. you either get it when they release stock(usually gone within minutes) or you go ahead and pay 50+ dollar for their service.
my friend has a one plus its not bad but the lack of expandable card slots really kills it for me.
64GB aren't enough?
The initial invitation before you purchase any device is only valid for 24 hours, so it is very difficult for people to transfer/resell them and I doubt if any of the 7-day listings on EBay will actually work (may be after you buy the phone the invitations last longer??? No idea).
64gb is actually enough, for some reason I always thought it was only 32gb. But I would much rather wait to see how it fairs out in the market first before I take the plunge.
I'd like an invite as well if anyone has one to spare
It sounds like a great phone, however being that it doesn't support CDMA/LTE (i.e., Verizon), then I can't use it even if I got it as I'm not switching to AT&T or T-Mobile.
I got my hands on one of these illusive invites about an hour ago. It must be claimed within 23 hours and only ships to Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and United States. Anyone want to trade something for it?
PMd
