Changes are coming to LowEndBox!

edited July 2014 in Announcements

Recently I have been working on improving and expanding LowEndBox. Our first step in that process is enabling the layout for more content. And that's just what I have done.

Within the next couple of hours, LowEndBox will received a minor layout update which will introduce a tab bar on top. This tab bar will feature three items at first:

  • LowEndBox: the site as you're used to know it
  • Tutorials: tutorials will be on a separate schedule from now on and under a different tab
  • About: this links to the current about page, which I plan on expanding and reorganizing

I hope you guys will appreciate these changes and will be part of the future of LowEndBox!

I think HVH should not get free advertising in prominent positions :)

The ad at the bottom of the page is bugging me out. The footer looks awkward.

    What do you recommend?

Well I would suggest text only ad's in the footer but as you have given the space away for free to a company you own it probably will stay just how it is I imagine :)

You could make another section on the footer and seperate the text and the ad itself.

I didn't even know there was ads on this site because of my AdBlock.

You could drop random ads between thread posts like they do over there

to me it would be less annoying than the ad in the footer for some reason, it just doesn't fit there.

Exactly, I am 100% okay with seeing text based ads.

Ads that take up bandwidth (huge flash content) and CPU rounds (animated gifs); or that interrupt the flow of the page (ads that look like comments) and distract from content (popups, redirects, multiple windows) will be blocked. The best ads are the ones that look like they should be there, and were not just paid to be there (the new Amazon ads).

Not only have ads for ColoCrossing hosts.

I am surprised you would suggest that, I've always thought that inline ads between posts were by far the most annoying thing ever. :-p

I would personally consider that the absolute worst type of advertizement you can get on a forum.

    Agreed.

I do like the direction LEB is taking already, love the tabs and will be really pleased when either that 2 year out of date green box at the top is updated or removed completely.

  • Should we have a dedicated tab for to providers' voting result? This will help feature good providers from real experienced users.
And if it is possible, a chart showing rating history of popular providers? The later needs a little coding effort anyway :-)

  • Looking forward to it!
