Can you backup to HubiC and not store locally?

C0mpassC0mpass Member

Hello,

Is there anything which can make HubiC not be like dropbox syncing all the files to each pc it's on and instead like a external drive?

Would love some help.

Thanks.

    Hi C0mpass,

yes it is possible to use HubiC as a data grave, but I don't think it's designed that way. In theory you can upload files to Dropbox without installing the client, but only through their API or via Web Interface.

If there would be something like a wrapper to emulate a mountable drive and then in the background it does everything over HubiCs API that would be nice!

Hubic remove 10 mbps up/down limitation from their website. But still available through their Generan Condition of Use (PDF) https://hubic.com/en/contracts/Contrat_hubiC_2014.pdf

    Oh indeed, now it says:

The speed of file transfers to your online storage space mainly depends on the quality of your internet connection, and especially the upload speed. However, to prevent some customers from monopolising hubiC resources at the expense of others, we reserve the right to limit the transfer speed per customer for uploads (to hubiC) and downloads (from hubiC).

However I wouldn't be so glad about this change. All this could mean, they can now start applying shady per-user limits, and those can be much lower than 10 Mbit. And actually I was testing my upload speed to Hubic yesterday, it was getting capped at 180 KB/sec (1.5 Mbit). This is on a 50 Mbit internet connection, easily getting full 50 Mbit from/to OVH's Gravelines and Roubaix DCs. I am on the free plan and was uploading a couple of 100-200 MB files for testing, with nothing else stored.

I only get max 100 KB/s :( testing from few vps provider here. I'm on their free plan too. If I remember correctly someone asking on their forum if these speed limitation only applied for Free Plan or not, sadly no one replies.

Test from a Kimsufi? Is it still the same speed limit?

  • This utility should help, works well for me.

So 10TB is only some fictional number anyway, they could offer 50tb and it's useless :(

If anything, I guess OVH would give top priority and speed to the free users (with just 25 GB they can't use much anyway), so that they get a good impression of the service's performance and decide to buy into the paid plan.

If you're on windows, ExpanDrive now supports hubic too.
