MX setup with Rage4
Hi all,
I recently (2 days ago) moved my domain over to Rage4DNS to have a play about with it.
I have a mail server on a VPS that i had around and i used IRedMail. However, when I use tools such as "intoDNS" to view my DNS set up i get "no records found" for MX even though they were set with Rage4. I have listed my config below - can anyone shine any light on it?
Hostname: mail.mydomain.com
A record for mail.mydomain.com = the IP of the mail server
MX record for mail.mydomain.com = IP of the mail server
I am happy to share my IP/Domain name with trusted users via PM however i dont really want to post it here.
Any help would be great!
Thanks,
Will

did you check on a commandline? dig +MX DOMAIN; dig +A mail.DOMAIN
Just tried that and got "invalid option +MX" and same +A
Im on CentOS 6 and have Bind utils installed.
Cheers.
Okay got that command to run - heres the output:

Hmmm the easiest way will be to open support ticket with us
I am on your free plan - so I would have assumed it was only for paid users however i will send one in now!
Is the email for 'mydomain.com' or 'mail.mydomain.com'?
I assume for 'mydomain.com' so it should be
A record for mail.mydomain.com
MX record for mydomain.com -> mail.mydomain.com and priority (ie. 10)
You probably have this setup wrong. You should normally have the following entries in DNS:
mail.domain.com - type: A - IP address of your mail server.
domain.com - type: A - IP address of your web server.
domain.com - type: MX - mail.domain.com
If I had to guess, you have the MX record on mail.domain.com instead of domain.com.
MX records can't use ip. And you probably want to set the MX record for yourdomain.com, not for mail.yourdomain.com
so do what petris said. If memory helps rage4 want you to use the correct syntax for fqdn with the trailing dot.
@rzlosty - we provide support to all our users and as far as I know the issue is solved now
Thanks for the help everyone. The issue is solved. I had my MX as the IP of my server instead of mail.mydomain.com. duh!
As this violates the RFC anyway Rage4 should probably display a warning.
