Anybody wanna compare this to DigitalOcean?

Also, when is the deadline for the double credit offer?

  • Even their website looks like DO

  • Is this real cloud or fake cloud like DO?

  • So why is this so much better than DO? More locations?

  • Terrible name. Will it be good? Maybe. Digital Ocean killer? Probably not.

  • I see no mention of 16 locations (only 12) and DDoS protection.

They are running cluster of E3 servers. They include free DDoS protection. They are using non-crippled KVM unlike DO. They are using kickstart/preseed to install OS instead of templates. They have far superior network than DO. They don't use RAID5 like DO.

When you choose a location, it says "Note: Primary locations include free DDOS protection"

  • Also, it looks like they are not using thin provisioning like DO:

    [root@SRVID5874 ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync; unlink test
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 2.5597 s, 419 MB/s
    [root@SRVID5874 ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync; unlink test
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 2.56624 s, 418 MB/s
    [root@SRVID5874 ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync; unlink test
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 2.59056 s, 414 MB/s

I'm not sure if DO gives VNC, but they do as well.

  • So which are the "primary locations" ?

DDoS protection in Amsterdam sounds interesting.

  • Are the prices and BW allocs for Japan and Australia the same as the other locations?

  • vultr, sounds like Voltron. Maybe I need to try it next month.
DO give vnc, but I rarely use it.

Japan traceroute looks ugly. Guess what? I traced their Japan location from Australia, and it went from AU --> USA --> JP instead of AU --> HK/SG --> JP, which took over 450ms.

Only 175ms to Linode in Tokyo.

From the screenshot of the locations it looks like they only provide the "primary ones" and France at the moment, can someone please keep an eye that page and post here if more become available? I'd sign up and even pay $50 to get that double deal, but with all the good locations unavailable, this whole thing seems rather useless.

  • Yes me too.. most of locations says sold out.. any one really saw it active before?

  • Nice website.Offers look promising just waiting for review from you guys.Anyway DO is not the end new companies should also come to market.

  • Interesting.... Waiting to get some review

    @serverian

Why do you have to find ways to distract me late at night

In other nodes was looking for a cloud provider that i would be able to launch small nodes around the world for next to nothing :) also looks like they price beter than do from what i can see.

  • NOONE KILLS DIGITALOCEAN. DIGITALOCEAN FOREVER <3333333

  • Added $50 credit, they bumped it to $100 :D

    I'll write a review soon.

  • Just deposited $50 and it doubled to $100.

I have the 2GB RAM plan in Amsterdam, let me know if anyone wants me to run any tests.

  • Homepage looks a bit like DO even.

    Thanked by 1forthcloud
  • It kills DO technically. But DO was always about marketing anyways, typical DO customers won't care about RAID5 vs RAID10, etc.

  • all i can say is.. their australia server sucks!..
im getting 650ms ping from one state over.. -.-

  • Hmm. They only have CentOS and Ubuntu templates?

  • Do they have IPv6?

Yes, one price for every location.

Pretty excited about it, never had anything come close in Australia of recent times. The old Jumba VPS offerings were about as close as it got.

Also, it appears these are the same guys as GameServers.com - the traffic into the AU location goes to the same subnet. Hosted in GlobalSwitch Sydney (400 Harris St, Ultimo) and in the iiNet/Internode cages.

I'm on Internode ADSL in Sydney, 28ms ping for me. I get the same ping to my Employer's servers in another section of that DC.
