Looking for a Windows VPS for my .fm web site

torontoTOtorontoTO Member
edited November 2013 in Providers

Anybody know of a European web host offering a Windows VPS that can host our .fm site? Looking for 2GB to start. Don't need a control panel, but would like SSL as an option.

This is a start-up so funds are tight.

TIA,
Steven

  • If you can provide your own license, then maybe Edis.at?

Thanks, but I'm looking for someone who doesn't need a license.

I don't think you'll find a better deal than this in the LEB range, especially in Europe.

Thanks, but I really want Europe.

why specifically windows vps, you can run shoutcast/icecast on a linux server as well with much lower overheads and would turn out to be cheaper instead...

Have a look at HostEurope. They are highly specialised in professional VPSes with Windows for business. They also provide free consultation and support by phone. Something I can always recommend when dealing with Windows VPSes for business needs.

    Best one in Uk!?
    Necs.co.uk

Quality doesn't come cheap but it is worth it.

    iwstack.com

    Windows 2008 or 2012 licensed template €0.0125/Hr => €9.00/mo

    so a 2GB RAM/35GB disk instance with windows is €0.0298 /hour

    :-)

Perhaps useful in the future; if you're on a tight budget, it's usually better to avoid proprietary platforms and only stick with open platforms (and that doesn't just refer to Microsoft stuff, also to things like ColdFusion etc.). You're less likely to end up needing some particular more expensive service to get/keep your stuff running.

  • Iwstack VPS are backed by a storage area network (more reliable than the traditional RAID), network is pretty good, support is fast and you can take snapshots before applying patches/upgrades to your application. No issues at all until now. Control panel is a bit crude, but it works.
You may also check Microsoft Azure services; they are noticeably more expensive, unless you make a yearly commit.

I looked at them and when I went through the sign up process I received an error message because of the .fm domain. Not sure if the error message was b/c the domain was not available (I own it) or b/c they don't handle .fm domains.

That's strange. They sell .fm-domains. Maybe give them a call, it's free after all.

Same thing over the phone. Can't transfer my .fm domain. Very weird.

Good advice. I'm confident once we get through beta we're not going to be married to only Microsoft.

    Seems not legal :

Ask them the auth-code and see what they said too.

  • Thanks but I'm not interested in KVM....
