is this unmeter is full speed 60tb like in the main page?

I said it once, I'll say it again: please don't quote the entire deal post. Leave just enough text such that it can still be identified.

    Thanked by 2nuke ehab
  • @Mr_Tom said: Not sure what exact specs you've got but mine looks same CPU unless I misread, half the RAM and 8tb.

    32GB RAM, 2x2TB, 2x8TB

Yeah so slightly smaller. 16gb and just 2x8TB

@Nekki understood you don't expect much from hetzner auctions... but...

    (inkl. UK VAT already)

I reckon I've been through all of those by now. Let's grab one for science now and see what the disks look like.

Not sure if its possible with 4x4 config, but a 1TB NVMe SSD can be ordered for hetzner auction sb for 9 Euros. This makes up for a great server which you can use to automate linux isos using usenet

depends heavily on what old model that server was and how many slots are available, but yes, adding some SSD to those boxes increases the value a lot.

Alright lads it's here, going to set it up and then interrogate the disks.

No errors, 62.5k hours on each disk, so a touch over 7 years old. All HGST MegaScale 4000's.

    Thanked by 1Falzo
  • @Mr_Tom said: Yeah so slightly smaller. 16gb and just 2x8TB

Ah no, that's not the Mini-Beast - from memory that was 16GB RAM, 2x1TB + 2x4TB - literally half of my spec, for about half the cost.

  • @Nekki said: No errors

that has to count for something, right?

62.5k hours on each disk, so a touch over 7 years old.

hmm, you're really not so lucky in that game it seems...

    HGST MegaScale 4000

no idea about the reliability of those :/

@PulsedMedia said: Customers been really happy with them, but the manual work on customizing them etc. just got too much, and we've never had the chance to realize the full potential of them due to lack of human resources for last bit of development.

They are really stable, really high performance and good price tho. Just not something we can slap together fast and in mass right now.

When they become again available (if they do), we will do only preconfigured versions, no custom versions at all anymore.

What was the actual pricing like per month? I can't imagine 15eur/m is what people ended up paying.
Unfortunately you're also situated in yurop, which is the last place I'd actually want that server but it's such a cool idea.
Actually if you ever have a Mushu going for less than 10.01 eur/m hit me up :^)

Oh no, 15€/mo was just the base price, then you add CPU, RAM, Drive(s) on that. So cheapest config was more like 25€/month. Might've been 22€/month was possible.

We even have some maxed out versions in production with 4750G 8core, and 64GB Ram.

A quick search suggests they're pretty decent, mores than some of the more recent WD drives. 7 years makes me a smidgen nervous though.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. People chose a 4750G for its PRO features or just because 5th gen wasn't out yet for the 5700G? This is making me want a mini pc now, not sure what I'd use it for.
Oh that reminds me, what sort of speeds should I be seeing between seedboxes? I went to transfer files to a seedbox I'm moving to because of your BF deal and transfer speeds weren't slow but not what I was expecting for inter-datacenter transfer.

tbh, drive age means quite little after ~4years. AFR levels of at 3-4years, and after is not significantly higher than drives of 0.5-2.5 years in practice.

At about ~4years only the best have survived pretty much, maybe that's why it seems to level off. We have plenty of drives with 5+ years in production, and just rolling back into production some ~7-8 year old drives

THAT or we are just getting very lucky with all our drives.

  • @Nekki said: 7 years makes me a smidgen nervous though.

5000 series G CPUs were not available yet.

On shared seedbox there are other users, so that might limit your speed if you are on 1Gbps not 10Gbps. Without other usage it should max out the link tho.

Absolutely. I've had more new drives fail compared to older ones. For example, older HGST Ultrastar 3TB SAS will probably outlive me.
