Working on it. Going to be migrating to a proper routing solution next week (no more mikrotik), so the router will no longer go pants on head stupid when IPv6 is introduced...

  • I've been very happy so far as well. Pretty stable, and good bang for the buck (in terms of bandwidth...and everything else lol :-) )

  • Yeah, I also loved the service. Especially the transparency with the maintenance and network updates. Hope it keeps on existing and improving. I don't care about extra ram as my use case wouldn't have benefited from it. If someone still wants it, the current price is already pretty close to the lowest ever.

    @dev_vps thanks!

I'm only going to do 3 more free RAM upgrades, but the 45% off sale will go on for a bit longer.

  • I always wondered with providers that dont allow gaming server/IRC etc. Thats because of being afraid of ddos attacks?

And how do you monitor if someone is running a game server or not?

  • Despite the location is far away to me, it was too tempting and I ordered one. :)

Can I get RAM upgrade? Opened a ticket for it.

    Easy. Block ports.

  • So you will get a list of every game in existance and block all those ports?

Thats a very bad solution, I hope you list those blocked ports on your hosting.

    Easy. Block ports.

It's impossible to block every game.
Plenty of Shockwave Flash games communicate over plaintext HTTP.
If you block port 80, ¾ of the customers will ask for refund.

If I wanna play Doom on VPS, I make PPTP tunnel, and you can't positively identify the traffic is Doom.

Likewise, my boy built a chat app that communicates over WebSockets.
Blocking the regular IRC port wouldn't block his chat app.

Also if @SWN_Michael has a scanner/sniffer it is still possible to block gaming ports with an active DB that has games and what ports they use.
Is it possible to bypass something like that? Yes.
It is @SWN_Michael company and servers. They can do what they want. Don't like it? Don't use their service.
So go ahead and run a game server on their service and when you get terminated for violating the TOS/AUP don't go crying because you agreed you wouldn't.

Glad we got that out, another host to avoid by a mile.

@drizbo I'm not doing any sort of active blocking or sniffing, it's more one of those things where as long as it's not causing me to get DDoSed it's fine. I'm going to be re-wording that.
