    Is it still "0.0 st" when you are transcoding / using 100% CPU? Nice little VPS anyway, but it doesn't appear often compared to their bigger VMs. You've been lucky being able to get one!

    you will only see steal occuring if the system is under load but not on an idle system...

    @pbx on a VPS Ostern L (2core) running geekbench multicore steal varies and goes up to 5% but that's it.

    cpu performance decreased a lot after the node got filled, GB5 directly after deployment (sunday) vs today: https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/compare/7274611?baseline=7308694

    keeping in mind that this is their shared vps line, this is totally expected and still good value given the price for 2c/8G/160G/80TB 🤷‍♂️
    I have an older 2c BF vps which is in a comparable range. maybe even a tad better, but probably a lot going on for a while on the new nodes anyway.

    procinfo says it's AMD though, so yeah likely some Epyc:

    Ok thanks. My VPS with them (EPYC 7702, VPS line) has very small steal time as well, if any. "VPS Karneval 2020" had more (up to 20%) and an Intel CPU. I was curious to know if the small "special" had more than their regular VPS line or was on an older node. It seems like it's on a normal node, given the good performance @edoarudo5 reports. Good deal!

    I am having problems writing cache to stream from CloudDrive because of the lack of storage so I cannot test it now. Planning to format this system, install APISCP, NextCloud and see how it goes.

    Links change, and some VPS don't stay available more than a few minutes... you can check on https://www.camelus.eu/netcup/ every 10 minutes or so to see if it appears in one of the first lines.

    Check back often, or setup something to do that for you and alert you when it becomes available. Urlwatch can do most of the job: https://thp.io/2008/urlwatch/

    It has been available a couple of time this morning it seems, it might be back soon: if I remember well in the morning it appears quite a lot.

  • Ah. I hope there will be more.

    Is there any contract, and billing contract on this?

  • angstromangstrom Moderator

    It's pretty clear that in general, there are more Root-Servers than vServers available, but it was nice to see some vServers return this morning.

    It seems like a 1-year contract on monthly billing. And you must cancel 31days before contract expiry or auto renewed

    Yep! Even seen a "M" one, not only the huge boxes... The 1.89 one isn't often available, though.

    It seems like there was one available when you wrote this message (on https://www.netcup.de/professional/managed-server/managed-cloud-cluster.php - "04-08-2021 09:50" @ https://www.camelus.eu/netcup/). I guess it should be back during the next hours, better check every 10 minutes if you really want one.

    Edit: available again, same URL! For your second question:

    Einrichtungsgebühr 0 € (inkl. 19% MwSt.)
    Mindestvertragslaufzeit 12 Monate
    Abrechnungsperiode 1 Monat
    Versandkosten keine

    So contract 12 months, payment 1 month.

    Indeed, the offers always say what the minimum contract period is and what the billing period is:

    Mindestvertragslaufzeit = 'minimum contract period'
    Abrechnungsperiode = 'billing period'

    The two periods are often the same (e.g., "12 months" for both), but sometimes the billing period is shorter than the minimum contract period (e.g., "12 months" for contract, and "6 months" for billing), in which case you're obliged to pay (given this example) a second bill 6 months later. It's even possible for the billing period to be longer than the contract period: consider the current promotion VPS Ostern M, which has a contract period of 0 months and a billing period of 12 months, which means that you can cancel at any time and receive a refund or credit for the remaining funds.

    (Important details :) )

    Did some of you had a VPS and a RS with Netcup and could tell if the difference in performance is noticeable? (Only had their VPSs myself)

    I'd assume that steal time is close to 0 anytime on the RS, is that the case? As there should be less customers per node, is i/o better?

    Thank you :smile:

    The steal on their VPS series can be up to 60% per core and they (the support) don't even care. Rootservers stay below 3% at max. If they're slow just contact the support.

    I/O is fine if you aren't on a HDD.

    My experience with vServers has been positive in terms of steal time (steal time hasn't been a significant issue), but other people's experiences with vServers seem to vary in this respect.

    My experience with Root-Servers is that their performance is much more consistent than vServers.

    It really depends on your use case and what you want/need.
