There really is no privacy when you register a domain regardless of whether your info is visible in WHOIS or not because your identity can be revealed with a court order.

Publishing is where information becomes public...

With a relevant court order any information can be acquired

Be careful with .si NS setup. All nameservers for a specific domain name listed in the registry (Arnes) must match actual records on the authoritative nameservers for the particular domain name. If something doesn't work, check it here why:
    http://www.registry.si/dns/dns-check.html

I had this problem, I used Dns4pro.com and @Amfy helped me resolve some minor errors. :-)

  • The biggest joke of a TLD is .es. That is the ccTLD of a little known first world country called Spain. To be able to query their whois server you must apply with a Spanish NIF and have a dedicated IP address:

    https://sede.red.gob.es/sede/whois

Yes, the SSL cert is invalid.

And only accessible in Spanish? No English version?

  • Google translate to the rescue!

@Spirit yeah ok its more secure as a normal domain right, but at .to you only the the Nameservers.

  • How about .su?
Only the nameserver and an email adress are visible.
    Or choose .ru :
Only the nameservers are visible and if you want to contact the owner you must fill in a contact form.

Got a source for this - I can't find one

A dot Soviet Union address sounds like a cool novelty though

  • @texteditor
I'm sorry but what do you mean with source? An evidence that there is only the ns and email visible or where do you one?

He probably meant where did you get this info:

Just look up the whois info for a random .ru/.su domain. You will see something similiar to this: admin-contact: http://www.reg.ru/whois/admin_contact or this: admin-contact: https://www.nic.ru/whois

  • .se too, depending on registrar.

  • Are there any registrars for .su that don't require a passport? (I don't have one)

  • nic.ru directly.

They send a postal verification however after some time.

Attempting to make a new contact there has a form for passport information, unless you can just put random crap?

  • I used my company number for william.su - no complaints from them

  • Also have a look at .by!
Only the nameservers are visible. But I think you need a (Belarussian?) passport if you want to sign up for a domain. They're also quite cheap (about 11€/y) but please make sure that you don't violate some sanctions.
