  • I believe that if your school needs more space, they will offer for free.

The average number of students in a US college is about 6500.

100TB/6500 means about 15GB for each student.

Isn't 15GB the free Gdrive allowance for everyone!?

They mention additional space for large institututions.

I'd be suprised if they arent going to be providing at-least something more than the normal free account. Although honestly most students don't use that much space. Even as as a software developer graduate (with machine learning and similar units) I can't recall using more than a few GB (our own storage was more commonly used i.e laptop).

I'm doing my part today to make sure Google doesnt run out of space.

    find /mnt/storage/backups/backup_crypt2:backup_db01 -type f -mtime +60 -delete
    find /mnt/storage/backups/backup_crypt2:backup_monitor -type f -mtime +60 -delete

I'm giving back 16TB (probably more once I figure out how to keep a sampling of backups)

P.S don't forget to manually sanity check your backups regularly. Ours were fine, but you always feel so much better afterwards.

Due to online learning requirements have significantly increased. Even a 8 page long assignment is easily 100mb now a days. each day I upload 8 gb of recorded teams meeting to googel drive so I can refer to that class if I ever need for I have already consumed 2 tb for that folder alone.
I keep a backup copy of all things I submit and it is well over 200gb

All this only for 6 months of online classes.
So I guess 5tb is minimum nowadays.

Im surprised nobody here realized the real reason.. Its because education accounts can be created for free from the master edu account and they each inherit unlimited drive space.

This leads to unlimited mass reselling of "cheap unlimited google drive" in sites like ebay, aliexpress and g2a.

Its a huge business, and you can literally create unlimited amount of resources to sell. You can easily forge some document and pose as primary school representitive. Then after some fast checks once you get approved, its free money coming in from doors and windows.

These accounts are then bought by those with only intentions to deliberately store as much shit as possible.

The actual gsuite/workspace enterprise users are the <5% of storage abusers. 99% of "unlimited google drives" are education accounts.

Ofc you can also resell the paid gsuite/workspaces accounts, but why would you pay 8-17€ per user each month to resell them few euros more when you can create free accounts to sell with the edu plan and earn 100% profit. I can even name a person who paid off his BMW and openly did this scam.
