Redundant Server for Directadmin

Lets say you have 2 servers both running Directadmin.

Server1 Hostname: server1.domain.com, ns1.domain.com, ns2.domain.com
Server2 Hostname: server2.domain.com, ns3.domain.com, ns4.domain.com

1) What would be the correct DNS settings to have the second server act as a fail over should the first server go down?

2) What would be the DNS settings be for load balancing?

  • Well the first thing you need to think about, how do you plan to replicate the data from server 1 to server 2 in real time?

I'm not worried about that yet, assume it doesn't need to be replicated in real-time, I just want to know the correct nameserver setup.

  • If they are both DA servers use Multi Server option for the DNS servers. Then you will only have ns1 and ns2 serving both server1 and server2
