    It's $5.99 for unlimited package

Where do you see that? On their website, it says $3.99 per month as well as in-app.

I never used Google Photos or Amazon Photos or iCloud Photos.

Every photo I take on my phone and not deleted before I connect to WiFi is synchronized to BaCloud free Nextcloud account (10GB) and appears on my computer.
From there, I sort them into folders by time and location, and move them to a USB hard drive hooked onto the home router and mounted over SAMBA.
Every few months, I upload the photos to Facebook, and copy them to another offline USB hard drive.
These must be complete before I delete the originals from the phone.

Photos taken on the DSLR camera skip the Nextcloud.
They go straight into the USB hard drive on the home router.

In the past, the Nextcloud was self-hosted in Virmach 384MB, but I moved it to BaCloud before the VZ6 to KVM transition and never moved back.
Despite higher latency from me, BaCloud is faster than the self hosted one.

In the past, I also generate lower resolution pictures (1600x1200) and upload them to OneDrive (15GB for accounts created before 2009), but I haven't done so for several years.

Does anyone use Piwigo for photo/video backup?

@Shazan Looks like their pricing varies by country. But you could contact them and ask for the $3.99 price and see if they offer it to you.

@vyas11 Their marketing may not be the best but they do deliver what's promised. I got their lifetime deal several years ago and been using it all the time. Everything works as expected.

@yoursunny You must be very time-rich person.

The LT deal has been discontinued.
18 months after I purchased, they discontiued updating the Mac App. Then they began charging $ 20 a year for it.
In 2020, they continued selling the LT deal even after they messaged that it would be shut down.
They are the same company behind Polar Drive who have been marketing aggressively on SS.
Anyways, it's a case of YMMV. Glad it worked out for you.

Btw- the affiliate sales sites still continue to push the plans as well (first 2 links)

    IT's not just my view.

@vyas11 Sorry to hear it turned out that way for you. I bought maintenance plan for my lifetime licence and was promised an upgrade to their new Business plan. I was told my lifetime account would be active as long as I pay for maintenance plan which is ridiculously cheap.

Overall, it seems they wanted to differentiate their Zoolz brand from home usage. I think that's why they're still offering lifetimes but under different name.

UPD: Yes, I've seen their bad reviews. However, most of them were left by people who misunderstand what cold and hot storages are and how that works within Zoolz. As for their support, good experience with them all the few times I've contacted. Lucky I am it seems, at least in something lol.

To be honest I have a hard time imagining android without Google photos. I'm still annoyed about the changing price/storage policy.

  • Currently I'm using 50GB free DosDrive account from Sentris.

    Beennusing it since 2016.

  • Do you people think that a 512MB RAM VPS would be enough to use Nextcloud on? It would be just for myself, hosting no more than 20GB of photos and documents.

It should run fine with 512mb ram and some swap space. I find I don't use the web interface very often (just the iphone app and windows/linux clients) and the load on my 1gb machine is 0.14, using 400mb ram.
